AI impact and adoption in the Enterprise: #28 with Allan Andersen Christensen

AI impact and adoption in the Enterprise: #28 with Allan Andersen Christensen

Allan Andersen Christensen and me finally got around to recording an episode of The Only Constant, and you can listen in to it now as the 28th episode is finally out! Allan is an extremely smart, pragmatic and good humoured professional who's been around the block in technology and business. His insights into what drives innovation, company efficiency and market dynamics makes this episode particularly engaging, especially as he has a knack for cutting through the noise and clutter of a tech market echo chamber like AI currently is.

As always, I am very happy that we once again managed to make an episode that explores more than it explains ??

What made this episode special to me?:

I got to know Allan when he was a DXC and they won our tender for RPA services while I was at ISS. Since then, 2019, we have developed a strong friendship that goes beyond any vendor-client relationship, and I am happy to be able to always draw upon Allan's valuable perspectives. This also meant I simply had to make this episode with him, to share some of the energy and insights we hitherto have kept mostly to ourselves on our coffee chats and walk n' talks. And I think the result is everything I expected it to be and I am so happy to finally share it.

What I like about the episode in particular is how Allan jumps at my questions and agrees to explore all of them with me, unprepared as he is for most of my detours (as usual, I go whereever I wish). His ability and desire to make sense of the tech market and turn it into value and - most importantly - realistic expectations makes this a particularly engaging episode for both vendors and buyers alike.

My key post-recording deliberations are:

  • Adoption is a lie: Allan claims to have never met an enterprise who can "just adopt" any technology. Everything is a mess of integration and assimilation, effectively rendering the whole idea of standard 1-2-3 adoption ideas unrealistic.
  • Transformation is a hoax: Innovation is not a thing to stop doing. This is mindset, not project stuff and we need to realize this, from investors to board rooms and all the way down through the ranks of enterprises.
  • Everything is incremental. Allan challenges me to come up with one thing I have in my home that is completely novel and not just an incrementally better version of an existing product. I couldn't. Can you?

This episode is a must listen for anyone who wants to be in good company and likes to discuss technology and business trends beyond the usual. I hope everyone enjoys the listen!
