AI and Immortality
Bruce Lee is gone, but his spirit remains; Guan Yu is no longer with us, yet his heroic spirit endures.
1?? How do you define immortality?
Immortality is when someone continues to exist in another form after they have passed — through classic works, great leaders' monumental achievements, or spiritual thoughts, etc.
A person’s legacy lives on after death.
There is also a saying that a person dies three times:
So, the key question is:
Is immortality about preserving the body in its best state, with eternal youth, without limits?
If yes, then what? If not, then what?
2?? Reincarnation
Will AI move from its current state to one of awareness, spirituality, and eventually, could it seek and attach itself to some form of life?
As living beings, are we, as religions say, destined to be “ashes to ashes, dust to dust”, with our souls finding their ultimate resting place?
From nothing to something, from something to nothing, the cycle between physical and virtual.
3?? Out-of-Body
With AI and technology, can we find an alternative form of immortality? Can we push the idea of an out-of-body experience to its extreme, transferring the soul from one life form to another?
Much like how we switch phones, transferring app and data (software) from an old phone to a new one (hardware)?
Updating the hardware, upgrading and transferring software.
The upgrade of the body from human biological flesh to the immortal form that is yet to be found, and the upgrade of the soul from version 1.0 to 2.0 to 3.0 to X.
There’s nothing new under the sun.
At the root of it all, it’s just a longing for the mortal world.
