AI @ Home
One of the many joys of calling San Jose home is living in the heart of Silicon Valley. We are surrounded by so much of the technology and innovation that has shaped the world as we know it today, and continues to shape the future.
This week I'm excited to be attending the NVIDIA GTC conference here in San Jose. It's my first opportunity to attend a conference in person in my hometown, and I'm thrilled to be sharing the experience with Silvia L. ! There is a dazzling array of sessions to explore, while learning more about Generative AI - its future potential and current use cases.
As a long-time space enthusiast, I'm excited about the session that starts my day on Monday, "Are We Alone? Searching for Extraterrestrial Intelligence and the Origins of the Universe at the Allen Telescope Array". It takes me back to the days in the early 2000s of the SETI@HOME project, where my personal PC would process and analyze small extracts of SETI data sets that were sent to computers globally, a fabulous example of a massively distributed "virtual supercomputer". (If you'd like to join me on this trip down memory lane, you can read more about the SETI@HOME project on the UC Berkeley site).
You don't have to look too closely to see the multitude of connections here between the past and present (large data sets, massively parallel processing, and distributed CPU/GPU resources, to name but a few). What is fascinating is what we can achieve in the future as the world of AI evolves through ever improving infrastructure, capacity and capability.

Join me on the journey this week at NVIDIA GTC, and please say Hi! as you see me around the conference. It's a small world, so thank you for being a friendly neighbor.
