AI is Guiding How We Map the Indoors

AI is everywhere these days. How many of you have used a tool or platform enhanced with AI to increase your productivity this week? It’s being used to generate photos, write code, and be a voice assistant. And it seems we’re only scratching the surface of what's possible.

AI is also being leveraged to enhance GIS, mapping, and spatial analysis. From extracting building footprints across large data sets to mapping the indoors in seconds, using AI is a game-changer for processing data, creating insights, and better decision-making.

Curious to see how AI can transform your indoor space? Let's dive in! But first…

Mapping a path to success with Pro and our new SDK ?

We launched early access to Mappedin Pro and our new SDK last month! The reception and feedback have been amazing and mapmakers and devs are floored with what they can build with Pro and our SDK. We’ve noticed more businesses, schools, campuses, workplaces, malls, public spaces, and government buildings being mapped.

The advanced AI mapping in Pro accurately detects more floor plan objects and automates mapping further. Room labels and connections (stairs and elevators) are now detected and mapped in only a few seconds, saving you time for other tasks.

For our latest SDK – now available with any map upgraded to Pro – we also had the opportunity to release its new features! You can start building with it in our Developer Portal and chat with our other devs including our DevRel team on our Community Forum. To put the SDK to work, we recently allowed over 1,000 hackers to use it at an intense 36-hr hackathon – read more below!

Hackers built some cool stuff with our SDK ??????

We love fostering innovation and supporting the tech community! That’s why we proudly sponsored Hack The North, Canada’s largest hackathon. This event brought together bright minds from around the globe to collaborate, create, and push the boundaries of technology. From a 3D-printed robot dog that guided visually impaired people indoors to a smart cane with fall detection and location notification, we were truly impressed by the creativity and depth of projects – almost all of which incorporated AI at some level. Read more in our recap of Hack The North, including detailed info about each of our sponsored prize winners!

Touching down at ACI NA Annual Conference ??

AI and IoT in airports was a major theme at the latest ACI NA Airports Conference in Grand Rapids, MI. As an essential event for airport executives and industry stakeholders, we showcased how our indoor mapping technology enhances the passenger experience, streamlines operations, and improves overall airport wayfinding. The feedback and enthusiasm reaffirmed the importance of innovative navigation solutions in the aviation sector. Learn more about the latest mapping trends in airports.

ALL IN with Scale AI ??

Our Founder & CEO, Hongwei Liu, recently joined visionaries and innovators at ALL IN, an industry event to discuss the future of AI in Canada. The insights gained and connections will undoubtedly propel our mission to make the indoors mapped and more discoverable.

Finding your way in the Toronto PATH ??

It’s a quintessential Toronto experience to be lost in the underground complex of retail, hallways, and commercial space. Our new PATH map provides commuters and visitors with an intuitive navigation tool for easier discovery. You can read up on (and listen to) the most recent coverage on BlogTO, CBC Morning Metro (skip to 22:13 to start the story), and Workhaus. Stay tuned for a deep dive into how we built the map.

Upcoming events ???

NACIS - Oct. 16–19, Tacoma, WA

How do we enable use cases beyond wayfinding such as asset tracking, data visualization and public safety from one map? Our VP of Engineering - Platform, Jere Suikkila, will be presenting about the indoor challenges we face, and how they can be solved, where one map everywhere truly connects people, businesses, and information.

Airports Leadership Forum - October 15-16, Los Angeles, CA

Meet with Yuval Kossovky, our Managing Director of Transportation, at the Airports Leadership Forum. This event connects airport leaders and industry partners on a range of airport topics including the use of new technologies, revenue generation, and increasing passenger experience. Learn more about Mappedin Airports.

Hot off the press ??

Indoor mapping needed for better accessibility

Indoor spaces are often difficult to navigate for people with disabilities (PWD) due to limited indoor mapping and reliance on visual signage. Most built environments were not designed with accessibility in mind, and current standards often overlook the convenience of movement for PWDs compared to non-disabled individuals.

Having blue dot navigation is important

According to this article, 85 percent of patients report asking for directions at a hospital, and 30 percent get lost. You’re not alone when roaming around a hospital looking for where to go for your appointment.

The latest in mapping trends for the connected airport

Airports serve as gateways for travelers and hubs of technology. With these latest trends outlined in this article, effective location-based solutions and comprehensive indoor mapping capabilities connect these complex spaces for improved passenger experience and discovery.
