AI (GPT-4) is Changing the Recruitment Game?

Today, I came across a Twitter post by ChatGPT that shared a screenshot of job roles that GPT-4 predicts could potentially be replaced by itself. At number 20, I noticed Recruitment. This led me to contemplate the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the recruitment industry and how it impacts trust and access to hidden talent and job opportunities.
AI's Role in Recruitment: AI is revolutionizing various aspects of our lives, and the recruitment industry is no exception. Breaking record of professionals are adopting ChatGPT and GPT-4 in their day-to-day work. From a recruitment perspective, companies increasingly employ AI to identify and attract top talent more efficiently and effectively. However, despite the advantages AI offers, it cannot replace the crucial aspects of trust and access to the hidden pool of talent and jobs in the hiring process. As it also claims, based on the Tweet, it will likely be used for interviewing (I believe more in initial screening) and assessment.
The Importance of Trust: Trust is a key element in career transitions. Professionals often face the daunting decision to leave their current employer for a new role in a different company. Trust in a future employer's ability to provide a stable and rewarding work environment is essential for professionals to make the move. In fact, trust in a future employer is the most crucial factor when deciding whether to accept a job offer.
Access to the Hidden Pool: Professionals are not only seeking trust but also access to the hidden pool of talent and jobs, which are not always advertised. From my personal experience, majority of the jobs are never posted. Many prefer finding a job through a referral or a personal connection, rather than an online job posting. This underscores the importance of access to this hidden pool in the hiring process.
AI's Limitations: Although AI can help identify and attract top talent, it cannot replace the human touch required to build trust and provide access to the hidden pool of talent and jobs. Trust is established through personal interactions, and AI can only replicate these interactions to a limited extent. (As of March 2023!)

AI's Ethics and Regulation: The debate surrounding the future of AI and its safety encompasses various aspects, with a particular focus on its application in the recruitment industry. Ensuring ethical and lawful practices is critical for maintaining trust and legitimacy in AI-driven recruitment platforms. A single error or incident could potentially taint a platform's reputation, as public trust in technology often hinges on its consistent reliability.
When AI systems function properly, they can revolutionize the recruitment process, streamlining operations and increasing efficiency. However, if an AI-driven platform were to make an error or be mismanaged, it could inadvertently engage in unethical, illegal, or discriminatory practices. This would have a detrimental impact on the platform's credibility, causing a loss of trust among potential applicants and employers alike.
Future of the Recruitment Industry: Senior-level jobs are more likely to be secure, while entry-level roles may see a reduced headcount, with AI augmenting the hiring process. McKinsey predicts that by 2030, automation could displace 400 to 800 million jobs, while creating 373 million new jobs (https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/future-of-work/ai-automation-and-the-future-of-work-ten-things-to-solve-for). This implies that fewer junior-level candidates will be needed, but entry-level jobs won't vanish entirely – they'll simply evolve.
While AI can enhance the recruitment process, it cannot replace the significance of trust and access to the hidden pool of talent and jobs in hiring. Trust, a vital aspect of career changes, is built through personal interactions. AI can aid in identifying and attracting top talent, but it cannot substitute the human touch required for building trust.
