AI Goes to Hollywood

AI Goes to Hollywood

Hollywood ain't happy!

The 'creative sphere' of moviemaking, once thought to be the sole dominion of actors and creators, has just been pierced by the sharp end of a GPU.

Lionsgate, a major player in the film industry, has recently inked a deal with Runway, an AI research firm, marking a significant milestone in integrating artificial intelligence into the moviemaking process. This partnership, the first of its kind between a major studio and an AI company, will likely set a precedent for the entire industry.

Lionsgate has the first-mover advantage (FMA); in my opinion! They'll take some heat for 'selling out' to AI Tech, but other major studios will follow suit in the long run if they want to stay competitive!

There will be no refuge for 'Studio Luddites' in Hollywood.

How will Lionsgate use AI?

1. Pre-production and Post-production Enhancement: I envision a lot of 'mock scenarios' generation without going on location. On the post-production side, I can see how they'll be able to add/autogenerate effects to enhance scenes.

Benefit: Cost Savings

2. Proprietary AI Models: Runway will develop exclusive AI models that will be trained on Lionsgate's extensive film and TV library.

Benefit: Fanbase alignment.

3. Potential for AI-Generated Previews: The technology could allow executives to view rough drafts of films before greenlighting, potentially reducing financial risks.

Benefit: Reduce 'rotten tomatoes'

Predictably, this announcement has sparked a wide-range of reactions across the entertainment sector fearing that AI could eventually replace human artists and filmmakers. This is reminiscent of the vocal screams by music artists back in April to stop the record labels from using AI.

AI continues to encroach on the once-thought-to-be impervious domain of creativity.

AI has arrived in Hollywood and its core, will transform the cost structure of how movies are made!

My prediction?

Near future: We may soon see a studio with only 3 people create the first $100M+ blockbuster film for less than $5M.

By 2035: You'll be able to describe, via text, the type of movie you'd like to see and AI will automatically create a bespoke movie for you to enjoy! And, if you don't like it, you can only blame yourself (i.e., bad prompting skills)!

Maybe someone should create a new movie rating site called, "Rotten Prompt"?
