This AI generated video almost fooled me - This Week in 3D
G'day,
Apologies for the two weeks of radio silence. Unexpectedly I got a staph infection and had to be admitted to hospital for surgery on my knee. But I'm alive and finally recovering, which means I could finally catch up on the world of 3D.
So here’s what I found interesting this week in 3D…
The cadence and movements aren't perfect, but holy s***! The hair is crisp, the muscles in the face tense on time, and the synthetic voice is almost flawless - with a few camera cuts you would never know. Considering how much our brains scrutinize human movement, this is a huge achievement (hats off to?HeyGen).
You’ve probably seen similar results in a game engine, but what makes this impressive is that it isn’t a custom script; it’s plug-and-play nodes assembled in Blender. If you'd had asked me a week ago, I would have told you this wasn't possible. Hats off to Shahzod Boyhonov who clearly knows vector math like no other.

I didn’t see a lot of marketing for this film, so I was frankly blown away. It’s not as polished as Mission Impossible, but the action is stupidly fun. The sequence of a helicopter landing on a moving train stumped me because it looked too good to be blue screen, but too dangerous to be real. Turns out they really did land a heli on a moving train! A huge amount of practical, but an equally impressive amount of invisible VFX. Highly recommend it.
While not yet useable for animation (the building appearance changes each generation), it’s already a huge timesaver for comic artists. Instead of drawing each panel from scratch, an artist could paint one frame as the training reference then create infinite alternate angles from cubes in Blender. Further proof that what will be valuable in the future is not technical but creative, problem-solving skills.
That’s all folks! Follow me on twitter for other discoveries.
Regards,
Andrew Price

1 年I don't understand why everyone is so jovial and flippant about this when it could potentially be used to frame another person or even be used for other dangerous means and agendas.
Everyone needs storytelling! 3D animation is my way of building narratives around brands, products, and ideas.
1 年This is insanely good compared to what has been done so far!
