3?? AI Ethics with Auxane Boch

Artificial Intelligence as a creator of music seems like a futuristic scene. Will it ever be as good as a humans though? What about creating emotional content when AI cannot feel? Well, those questions are not mine to answer, but I have to say music generated by AI can be quite impressive! Now, for today’s discussion, here are a few ethical points to consider as food for thought. For the AI to be able to generate music, it has to be trained on a data set. The risks of using copyrighted data or re-creating existing samples thus exist. Here, data inputs, and outputs of the AI have to be scrutinised closely to be sure not to go against existing copyrights of creators. On the other hand, using AI to create music comes with great opportunities in regards to accessibility. If you think about a scenario in which right now, regardless of your musical training, you have to create a musical piece, I’m pretty sure that quite a few of you wouldn’t be too happy. Well now, AI can do that for you. If this is a quite simple example, it does relate to accessibility. Anyone with a computer (and an internet connection) can today create (complex) music without having had to go to music school, or having had to spend hours trying to understand a music software.
