AI generated vs AI assisted: whats the difference?

How are you using AI in your business?

We have been keeping a close eye on the rise of AI and its impact on book publishing. Back in March ‘23, we released a white paper assessing its ability to work with transcripts. A more recent development of great interest to us has been Amazon’s updates to Kindle Direct Publishing’s content guidelines. Authors are now required to declare all AI-generated content in their work.

By Amazon’s definition, AI-generated content is “text, images or translations created by an AI-based tool” – no matter how much the content has been edited afterwards. AI-assisted content on the other hand uses AI-based tools to “edit, refine, error-check or otherwise improve” content that a human has created themselves.

This distinction between AI-generated and AI-assisted content is important to get right Can AI generate content just as well as a human can? We have set ourselves the challenge of finding out – watch this space for what we have learned!
