New advances in AI were presented at Google I/O 2024, including Veo for video generation and Project Astra for the next generation of AI assistants.

• Veo video generation: Google DeepMinds Veo creates high-quality 1080p film-style videos from images, videos and text instructions.
• Project Astra AI assistant: Based on the Gemini model, Astra supports multimodal interactions in real time and is set to revolutionise AI assistance.
• AI team colleagues in the workplace: From 2025, AI team members are expected to help with collaborative tasks in Google Workspace and improve productivity and communication.

Gen Z and millennials on the future with AI

Deloitte has published the 2024 Gen Z and Millennial Survey, which surveyed 23,000 employees in 44 countries.

• Balance and concerns: Frequent users of generative AI report an improved work-life balance and productivity, but also growing concerns about job security.
• Job anxiety is growing: 60% of workers believe AI-powered automation will lead to job losses in the future, with power users more concerned than non-users.
• Willingness to retrain: Despite the current lack of training, 59% of Generation Z and 57% of Millennials said they want to retrain to adapt to the impact of AI on their careers.

OpenAI Co-Founder: AGI in 2-3 years

John Schulman, co-founder of OpenAI, said in the Dwarkesh Podcast that AGI could come in 2-3 years. In 1-2 years, AI models could manage entire programming projects independently. Schulman believes that AI could replace his job in five years. (Source)

Alvaro Cintas has created an iPhone shortcut with which GPT-4-Vision can directly analyse and describe any photo or screenshot:

Step 1: Create OpenAI API key.
