AI and the Future of Broadcasting

AI and the Future of Broadcasting

Artificial intelligence is making an impact in every industry, and this trend will continue to grow. While some industries are already leading with AI innovation, broadcasting is still in the early stages of adoption. Let’s dig deeper into why this is the case and explore the opportunities ahead.

Soon, there will be two kinds of companies: those that understand AI and those that are out of business, a sentiment echoed by several successful leaders who have recently expressed variations of this statement. When considering the implementation of an AI strategy at your organization, the first step is education. There is a learning curve to navigate in order to understand what AI solutions are available, and which ones would best fit your business needs.

Because of the industry dynamics of the past few years where linear revenues have been shifting to digital and streaming platforms as a result of declining audiences, broadcasting media companies have been downsizing while increasing expectations from their smaller teams. In this environment, it becomes challenging to make the time to learn AI.

That said, not having a formal AI strategy doesn’t mean that you don’t have an AI strategy at all, it just means you’re not in control of it yet. Earlier this year, 微软 and LinkedIn released their “2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report”, which revealed that 75% of global knowledge workers use GenAI tools at work, and 78% of them bring their own AI to work (#BYOAI). AI in the workplace is already here; now it’s time to implement a formal AI strategy, starting with governance over AI and securing compliance, data privacy and cybersecurity. But where should you begin?

Embracing AI can positively impact many areas of the broadcasting business, and adopting GenAI tools is the easiest first step. Your Creative teams now have access to amazing Generative AI tools that can increase their ability to produce extraordinary work at lower costs and in much shorter time! These new GenAI tools can generate images from text prompts, video from text or images, and audio from text. They can also assist your team in creating promos, storyboards for brainstorming ideas and even commercials for clients!

Your Sales department can automate routine tasks, allowing AI to handle what it does best, while your sales team focuses on higher-value activities: spending more time with clients to strengthen relationships and develop new ones. You can also encourage your sellers to use GenAI tools for conducting industry and client background research, creating presentations and generating emails.

Your News team can leverage the use of LLMs (Large Language Models) such as ChatGPT or Gemini to research investigative stories, write scripts, review, and even edit them! They can also take advantage of a fast-developing area in artificial intelligence: robotics. This technology can be used during breaking news coverage of dangerous situations, such as natural disasters. Send your robots to cover the story and keep you team members safe!

Finally, broadcasters now have the opportunity to generate new revenue streams by licensing their original content for AI model training. Several startups have already emerged to aggregate TV and movie content, making it available to AI companies as a one-stop shop.

AI is the next technological evolution in the entertainment business. Embracing this disruptive innovation the right way can revitalize the broadcasting industry! #BetterAI for a #BetterWorld VxM AI

That's actually pretty interesting! I didn't even think AI was affecting the broadcasting industry!
