AI FOMO & Overwhelm? ???♀?Here's Your Permission Slip to Chill Out

AI FOMO & Overwhelm? ??♀?Here's Your Permission Slip to Chill Out

Let's talk about that pit in your stomach every time you open LinkedIn and see another "Game-Changing AI Tool You MUST Use!" post. You know the feeling – like you're perpetually behind in a race you didn't sign up for, and the finish line keeps moving further away.

Here's your reality check: You don't need to master every AI tool that drops into your inbox. (This seems obvious, but if you are like me, you can't help yourself.)

The FOMO is Real (But It Doesn't Have to Be)

Remember when we all thought we had to be on Clubhouse to stay relevant? Yeah, Do you even remember your login for it? The same applies to AI tools. That shiny new AI platform everyone's raving about today might be yesterday's news faster than you can say "ChatGPT alternative."

Your No-Nonsense Guide to Staying AI-Sane

Here's how to approach AI without losing your mind (or your entire workday to tutorial videos):

1. Pick Your ???Lane and Stay There (For Now)

Let me share a little story about learning this the hard way. When Claude and Gemini burst onto the scene, I did what any eager marketer would do – I tried to use ALL of them. Picture me bouncing between three AI chatbots like a caffeinated squirrel, losing track of which client conversations were where, and creating content that was as scattered as my email inbox during that one week I tried using Gmail's auto-filters instead of my perfectly crafted folder system. (Listen, even organized people have their moments of temporary insanity.)

After one too many "wait, which AI wrote that?" moments, I made a decision: ChatGPT would be my only for a full month. No peeking at other AIs, no matter how shiny their features looked. I dove deep into workshops on creating custom GPTs and made it my go-to for all content creation.

Am I a ChatGPT master? Not yet. But at least now I can create content without feeling like I'm juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle.

The takeaway?

- Choose ONE area of your work where AI could make the biggest impact

- Master ONE tool in that space

- Ignore everything else for at least 30 days

(Yes, you have my permission to be "behind" on the latest AI makeup artist or pet photo generator.)

2. The Weekly AI Power Hour: My?? Love-Hate Relationship with Newsletters

Like many of us diving into AI, I started by subscribing to every promising newsletter I could find. While the information was valuable, keeping up with the flood of updates quickly became overwhelming. Think of it as trying to drink from multiple fire hoses at once – you end up missing more than you catch.

Through trial and error, I've learned that curating your information sources is just as important as the information itself. Quality over quantity isn't just a catchphrase – it's the difference between actionable insights and information paralysis.

I have my ChatGPT is playing secretary, condensing these newsletters into bite-sized pieces relevant to my needs. (Stay tuned for my upcoming article on how to do this – because sharing is caring, folks.)

Here's my refined (and actually manageable) approach:

Newsletter Ninja Moves

I've narrowed down to a few power-packed newsletters that consistently deliver the goods (and yes, I'm sharing my secret weapons with you – you're welcome):

(Pro tip: Bookmark these now before they get lost in the black hole that is your browser tabs. We both know what happens to those "I'll read it later" links...)

The "Actually Try Something" Challenge

Last weekend, I put on my explorer hat and dove into HeyGen video avatars. Instead of just reading about it (yawn), I actually played with the tool. Result? Found a new gem we're rolling out for both our agency and clients. Sometimes you've got to get your hands dirty to strike gold. (Full Overview on HeyGen - Coming Soon??)

Schedule one focused hour per week to:

- Skim those carefully curated newsletters (subject lines are your friends)

- Pick ONE thing to actually test drive

- Document what worked (and what made you want to throw your computer out the window)

- Implement something concrete – because knowledge without action is just expensive entertainment

??I recorded a quick teaser overview of the HeyGen??? video too. Check it out below??.

3. Create Your AI Bullseye ?? (AKA: Where to Actually Point That Thing)

Here's the consistent tip I've been given from every AI expert I've chatted with: Start with the soul-crushing tasks that make you question your life choices. You know, those repetitive, mind-numbing processes that you hate to do or have assigned to a VA. THEN, you need to write down the steps for that task or have your VA do it. Do these two things first then look for the tool that helps you take it over.

At REBL Marketing, we took this advice and ran with it. We looked at our workflows and SOPs. Our podcasting SOP was always a challenge to execute, not to mention taking a back burner to everything else the team was working on. So, we automated it! Here's the kicker: We used our CRM. No AI tools were involved...yet.

Here's what happened: We turned our podcasting management process from a multi-day marathon into a minutes-long sprint. We're talking about going from "I'll have this ready by next week" to "Check your inbox in 15 minutes." (Don't worry. Humans still review and edit, and we're not completely robot-overlord status yet.)

Your Turn to Get Real:

1. Center Circle: Your biggest time-vampire tasks

2. Middle Circle: 2-3 processes that make you say "ugh" daily

3. Outer Circle: Everything else that makes you go "Ooh, shiny!"

The Secret Sauce Recipe:

1. Identify what's consistently inconsistent in your workflow

2. Find the tasks that make you want to hide under your desk

3. Look for processes that your team does differently every time

4. Start automating these first (your sanity will thank you)

Pro Tip: If you're spending more time watching AI tutorial videos than actually doing the task... you might be procrastinating. Just saying. ??

Stay focused on automating one process at a time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and your AI automation empire won't be either. But unlike Rome, you've got robots on your side.

The "But What If I Miss Something Important?" Survival Guide

Trust me, if something revolutionary happens in AI, you'll know. It'll be harder to miss it than to find it. Remember when ChatGPT dropped? Exactly. You couldn't avoid it if you tried.

Your Action Plan (Because We're Done with the Overwhelm)

1. This week: Pick your ONE tool and ONE use case

2. Next week: Implement it in your workflow

3. Next month: Evaluate if it's actually making a difference

4. If yes: Level up your skills

5. If no: Try something else

Rinse and repeat. That's it. No need to apologize for not being an early adopter of every AI tool that launches on Product Hunt.

The Bottom Line

Real talk? I wrote this article because I was literally banging my head against my desk last week, drowning in a sea of AI tools and "must-try" technologies. If being overwhelmed were an Olympic sport, I would go for gold.

And then it hit me – if I'm feeling like I'm doing mental gymnastics, others must be too. (Spoiler alert: Based on the number of DMs I'm getting, I'm not alone. And neither are you.)

Here's the truth: 2025 is going to be absolutely bonkers in AI-land. New tools will pop up faster than coffee shops in Seattle. But you don't have to hide under your desk or pretend it's still 1999. (RIP Prince)

Instead, let's tackle this chaos together. Take a deep breath, pick your lane, and remember: You don't need to be everywhere in the AI space. You need to be somewhere, effectively. Pick your spot, plant your flag, and let the FOMO float by like a cloud on a breeze.

And hey – I'm right here learning alongside you. Well, maybe slightly ahead because I've already made some spectacular mistakes you can now avoid. You're welcome. ??

Now go forth and conquer – one AI tool at a time. The robots will wait.

P.S. If anyone asks if you've tried the latest AI tool that launched 5 minutes ago, just smile mysteriously and say, "I'm taking a strategic approach to AI adoption." Trust me, it works every time.

??Rebecca (REBL) Risty "REBLutionize Your Marketing" I have a folder with over 100 AI tools on my radar for my AI tech stack for clients, and I try to chip away at it a little each day. 15 minutes a day helps me cut through at least 5 as I look fast and if I get lost I move on. I want to start a daily AI digest of reviewing sales tools but have to find the time of course. The best tip I’ve received recently is to stop looking at every tool out there and instead focus on the specific problems or challenges I’m facing—then find tools to help with those. That said, I still get eight AI newsletters a day, so it’s very much a work in progress!
