NYC AI Day 2024: AI-First Conversations in Financial Services, an event hosted by Infosys this past December, explored AI adoption success stories and challenges through a series of panel discussions and talks from financial services leaders and AI experts. Experts from academic and business backgrounds suggest that we have only scratched the surface of what generative AI has to offer companies.
Panelists from Microsoft and NVIDIA highlighted valuable applications in fraud detection, credit risk assessments, and personalized client advice. Generative AI tools enable companies to analyze vast datasets faster and more affordably. This increased efficiency helps extend high-value services, such as personalized client advice, to a broader audience.
Companies that have pursued well-defined pilot projects are already refining their data strategies and addressing risks associated with AI. Financial services companies are moving beyond generative AI experimentation. However, integrating these technologies effectively requires a thoughtful approach — focusing on workforce readiness, operational trust, and the broader strategic use of AI.
Credibility, compliance, and ethical concerns
Financial institutions are grappling with the tension between innovation and control. Ethical and legal concerns about corporate AI-use are valid. But without hands-on access to AI, companies can’t hope to ever start their AI journeys and transform.

Generative AI offers immense promise, and financial institutions should aim high with their aspirations. But those who have seen early success start small. Instead of overhauling systems, they focus on targeted use cases such as fraud detection or customer service automation. These pilot projects allow organizations to refine their AI capabilities incrementally, gain confidence, and see immediate impact from their efforts.
Gradual implementation reduces disruption risks and demonstrates tangible benefits. This approach enables companies to scale responsibly, expanding the scope of their AI applications as early successes build internal momentum.
Leverage ecosystems and partnerships
NYC AI Day 2024 attracted financial services companies, chipmakers, systems integrators, software providers, and startups, all with the same goal of understanding how to adopt AI successfully. It is immediately clear that no institution can tackle the complexities of AI adoption alone.
