The AI Evolution: A Journey Beyond Our Imagination.

Decades ago, many people couldn’t even imagine the idea of everyone having a mobile phone or access to the internet. If you remember, we once wondered about those technologies. There was a conception that only the rich or influential people could afford them. We viewed the new technologies with awe, like they were part of the seven wonders of the world (lol). Fast forward to this day, almost everyone has a mobile phone and can access the internet, regardless of where they are on the planet.

There are a few reasons I can think of why most of us won’t imagine this tech could go around. On the one hand, mobile phones were expensive, so much so that they were seen as a symbol of affluence at the time. I remember how we cared for and pampered a Trium mobile phone that my brother-in-law had saved money to buy; we literarily worshipped the phone (lol). The memory is still sharp in my brain. On the other hand, the infrastructure needed to support widespread use was unavailable. So, the notion of global communication was a futuristic world that seemed almost mystical.

As we have seen, though, technology has a way of integrating into our lives in ways we never imagined. For example, the phones were once bulky and unbreakable, if you know what I mean (lol). The internet also started as a research work supported by the U.S. Department of Defence. Now, they are the backbone of our society. It is an understatement to say that the speed at which technology evolves is staggering, which makes me laugh at how some of us have yet to grasp the extent to which AI can go. Like mobile phones and the internet, AI is beginning to redefine our lives in such a way that, a few years ago, we didn’t imagine. The sad reality is that we may still be underestimating its future impact on humans. Just as we couldn’t foresee the smartphone revolution or the internet’s dominance, we might be overlooking the ways AI will transform our world in the coming decades.

So, why should anyone care about this? Well, just as the world evolved with the advent of mobile phones and the internet, we are witnessing another seismic shift with AI. We are seeing AI-powered tools in our homes and healthcare and already seeing self-driving cars in some parts of San Francisco. Even the way we interact with one another is now entwined in AI. The AI revolution will not happen in the future; it’s happening now! Alas, it’s accelerating (lol). The simple knowledge of how technology works becomes crucial as the world races into a new era of civilization, those who are unprepared risk being left behind.

It’s no surprise that almost every company is embracing AI and integrating it into every fabric of their operations. However, not all companies have adopted AI. Some failed to recognize its potential early due to knowledge gaps or corporate policies. A few other companies did jump on the bandwagon but did so without a clear strategy, resulting in poor implementations that didn’t yield the expected benefits.

For those who feel overwhelmed by the pace of change, you are not alone. You don’t need to become a coding expert overnight, but gaining a basic understanding of how technology works can give you an edge. There are tons of resources available online to help anyone get started. Personally, I spend a few hours when I have time mastering some programming concepts, and it’s been a transformative experience. However, building an algorithm is not just about writing code; it’s about understanding the logic behind the systems that drive our world. This knowledge has empowered me to build complex systems over time.

As we are on the verge of another technological revolution, I can’t help but think about how fast our world can change before our eyes. The AI revolution is here, and it’s moving quickly. The choice is ours. But one thing is sure: those who prepare and take the time to learn and adapt will be the ones who thrive in this new era. So, let’s not just stand and be a spectator in our changing world; let’s partake in the change.
