This was the stepping stone in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, and quest started for “How to build intelligent machines and how to test their intelligence”, and it went on till 1950-1990.
During 1990-2000 majority of landmark goals in AI were achieved. In 1997 IBM’s Deep Blue (A Chess Playing Computer Program) defeated grand master Gary Kasparov which emerged as a huge step towards an artificially intelligent decision making program. In same year a speech recognition software, developed by Dragon Systems, was implemented on Windows. This was another great step forward but in the direction of the spoken language interpretation endeavour.
People started believing that there wasn’t a problem machines couldn’t handle, Even human emotion was fair game as evidenced by Kismet, a robot developed by Cynthia Breazeal that could recognize and display emotions.
AI is Everywhere
We live in information age, and there is data everywhere which is impossible to process manually, this is where implementation of AI has been helpful in collecting data, analysing data, and helping decision makers to make decisions based on accurate data by differentiating between data and data that matters.
Future of AI
AI is the next big thing, there are chatbots, robotic calling machines which can converse in more than one language in real time, self driving cars, In the long term, the goal is general intelligence, that is a machine that surpasses human cognitive abilities in all tasks.
Recently in a ground breaking research scientists have developed AI-based living robots “Xenobots”, using harvested cells from African frogs (Xenopus Laevis), which were designed using Artificial Intelligence, these robots can now reproduce on their own.

Industrial Impact of AI
AI is being used for creating smart manufacturing units using automated material handling, and industrial robots, another application of AI based retail where data collection of customers, their personalised recommendations is done for better supply chain management.
AI is also being used in building new generation infrastructures: smart homes, offices, farms, disaster management, e-Governance solutions, life sciences solutions, bio technologies solutions, healthcare infrastructure development and automation.
Another interesting application of AI is in field of automotive engineering solutions by designing AI based automotive situation testing, which reduces lot of manual effort as compared to conventional methods.
Application of AI is also instrumental in areas of technology for creating barrier free and automated data centres. It is also being used for providing security intelligence solutions, cyber security solutions, and automation life cycle management for leading organisations across various domains.
Another remarkable application of AI in field of Education is AI based learning institutes are being setup where there are no teachers, students learn on their own, manage their own time, assessed by peers, allowing them to develop in all aspects of the field, and create self motivated, hard working professionals.

AI Powered communication technologies, L&D solutions, media & entertainment solutions will soon become integral part of our day to day lives leading to a new dawn of “Human-AI” age where human and artificial intelligence will work hand in hand to get faster, accurate, precise results in minimum time frame reducing a lot of manual effort which can be channelised for a bigger purpose.?
