AI is for everyone, but where do you start?

AI is for everyone, but where do you start?

“I think everyone should do it, from the CEO down. You need to have direct first person experience interacting with the technology,” says Aidan Gomez , Co-Founder of Cohere , and one of the top AI builders on the planet.??

Gomez was one of three panelists featured on a recent virtual event I moderated in partnership with Salesforce called, What’s Next for AI. Industry experts Paula Goldman , Chief Ethical & Humane Use Officer at Salesforce and Jen Lee, Gen AI Risk & Compliance Lead at Accenture echoed Gomez’s advice, stressing the need to experiment and manage risk at the speed of innovation.?

In Salesforce’s latest State of Commerce report, 84% of business leaders said they believe AI will give them a competitive advantage – and I’m hearing the same sentiment (along with some incredible success stories) from the leaders I engage with across Canada and beyond. It’s truly a critical moment in time for businesses to seize the AI opportunity, or risk getting left behind.?

Over the course of the hour we discussed several ways companies can realize the true value of AI – like accelerating time to value, boosting productivity and growing your revenue – by adopting the technology with a holistic strategy that has safety at its core.?

?An overarching theme coming out of the conversation was that a thoughtful AI approach starts with trust. The panel agreed that AI guardrails are necessary to allow businesses to understand the space where they can safely grow. Paula Goldman spoke about ensuring there are always people in the mix, which Salesforce refers to as a “Human at the Helm” strategy. She explained how this approach ensures there’s a 360 view of the controls and systems in place.

Throughout the AI adoption process, Jen Lee stressed the importance of finding the right partner, and then taking the right steps with that partner to ensure all AI systems are operating how intended. As she explained, this is an essential part of managing overall risk on the AI journey and optimizing your ROI.

Needless to say, I learned a lot during this panel and I want to share it with all of you. Here are my top 4 takeaways from the conversation. These are just a few highlights, but I highly encourage you to watch the full one-hour session for free to help you decide what's next for AI at your organization - WATCH HERE:

  1. Getting started - To overcome hesitations, a shift in perspective is necessary.? AI is not a threat. Instead, it can be an? exponential enhancement of your company’s daily operations, built right into the flow of your employees’ work.?
  2. Finding trusted partners - Don’t try to tackle AI on your own. Seek out a partner who is with you every step of the way. They’ll not only help you map an AI and data strategy to your business goals today, but are also poised to understand where the technology? will be in months or years to come. You want to be future-proof.?
  3. Managing risk at the speed of innovation - Businesses should provide clear policies for trustworthy AI to instill confidence and encourage employees to embrace AI to its full potential. This includes implementing frameworks that prioritize accountability, auditability, and transparency in service of building trust with your customers and biggest stakeholders.
  4. Fostering Human-AI Collaboration - Embrace a culture of testing and learning, actively engaging with AI technology to understand its capabilities and limitations. From top leadership to frontline teams, everyone should be using AI to understand how it can make your business better.

Thanks to Salesforce for inviting me to moderate this session. Whether you’re just starting out, or already deep in your AI journey, this free one-hour session has plenty of tangible insights that will help you take your strategy to the next level:

Hi Amber, I really liked the statement in the article: "An overarching theme coming out of the conversation was that a thoughtful AI approach starts with trust. The panel agreed that AI guardrails are necessary to allow businesses to understand the space where they can safely grow." I'd amend the word "businesses" to include "people (including kids), companies, enterprises, schools, and different levels of government. Further, I'd amend the word "AI" to be "AI, IoT devices, AI agents and AR/VR environments". I've led leading edge, large global identity, security and change management projects. I've spent the last 8 years slowly working my way through rethinking learning. "Trust", "security", "privacy", and "control over our data" was first and foremost in my mind. Thus, if you're interested read the messages which follow. HOWEVER NOTE THIS WILL BE A LONG SERIES OF MESSAGES BECAUSE IT'S VERY COMPLICATED. SO, IF YOU MAKE IT TO THE END AND ARE STILL INTERESTED CONTACT ME. As a PS section, I'll include my recent thoughts on enterprise architecture and security - all of which must significantly change. Guy ??
