AI-Enabled Consumers: The Future is Now (for health)

Building towards an AI enabled future that is driven by data, technology, and measurable outcomes
AI in healthcare is a rapidly growing field, with new advancements being made every day. However, there are still a number of barriers to adoption, one of which is consumer trust. In order to increase consumer trust in AI healthcare, it is important to be transparent about how the technology is being used. Patients should know what data is being collected, how it is being used, and who has access to it. It is also important to ensure that AI systems are accurate and unbiased. By addressing these concerns, healthcare providers can help to build a more trusting relationship with their patients and make AI a more effective tool for providing healthcare.
At a recent standing room only discussion that I facilitated at the Health Evolution Summit, we explored the topic of AI-enabled consumers and the future of healthcare. Susannah Fox , Kristen Valdes , Vivek Garg, MD, MBA , and I discussed the importance of patient trust in AI healthcare and how to build that trust. They agreed that it is essential to involve patients in the development and use of AI tools. Patients should be able to understand how AI is being used and what data is being collected. They should also have the right to control their data.
The panelists also discussed the importance of transparency and accountability in AI healthcare. They emphasized the need for clear communication about the risks and benefits of AI. It is also important to have mechanisms in place to ensure that AI systems are fair and accurate.

The discussion concluded with a call to action for healthcare providers and policymakers. They urged healthcare providers to be more open about their use of AI and to engage patients in the development of AI tools. They also called on policymakers to create regulations that protect patient privacy and ensure the ethical use of AI in healthcare.
By taking these steps, we can build a healthcare system that is more patient-centered and uses AI to provide better care. It was a pleasure to facilitate the discussion and thank you to the team at Health Evolution Summit for hosting a fantastic conference.

7 个月Cristian L. thanks for moderating an excellent conversation. Much respect to Kristen Valdes & Susannah Fox for their deep dedication and work to guide consumer’s ownership of their health. Technology can strengthen the clinician-patient relationship: activating personalized, shared-decision making is one way #AI can bring us together, achieving goal-concordant care for more people. Oh, and eliminate all low/no-value tasks for #clinicians through intelligent automation, so we can give our time and skills back to patients, not #EMRs.

7 个月Cristian L. - Sharing an example of taking the ideas behind the Google Transparency Report methods and applying them to health data -- I'm very proud of my work on the Data Use Transparency and Impact report at Invitae. The goal was to show data governance, transparently, and create an output of alllllll the ways an individual's consented data impacts the greater good. Whenever possible a summary of the publication or the poster itself is shared in the compendium and quantified to show the data lifecycle from testing results to an individual to policy and advocacy to change clinical care delivery and access. https://view.publitas.com/invitae/r104-patient-trust-data-transparency-report-2022/page/1
