AI & Emerging Technologies – Making AI Real

The theme for the 3rd NASSCOM XperienceAI Virtual Summit, 'Making AI Real' aimed to delve into conversations to show the real impact of AI and the value it can create from an enterprise and society lens. On August 10, we discussed second focus area for the summit - AI & Emerging Technologies – Making AI Real.

Here, we have gathered valuable takeaways from our sessions on AI for Impact, Citizens, Scale and Technology in this article.

DeepTech | Morning Episode

The second day of #NASSCOMXperienceAI Virtual Summit kicked off with the workshop ‘Preparing for the Quantum Era’ by L Venkata Subramaniam , Quantum Distinguished Ambassador, IBM . In his workshop, he spoke about the role India can play as a leader in this quantum computing era. He also explained how combined with AI, quantum can solve some of the tough problems of the society.

Next up in the three intriguing workshops for the day was Kartik Shinde , Partner, 安永 India, where he addressed the question How Intelligent is your AI-enabled Security? AI-enabled security systems are playing a pivotal role in executing fundamental cybersecurity tasks by sifting through large quantities of heterogeneous cybersecurity data.

For the last workshop, we had Ashok Balasubramanian , CEO, Open Weaver and Karthikeyan Krishnaswamy Raja , CTO, along with Alicia, the generative AI assistant and about Generative AI that uses the results of past decisions to create new and potentially better ones, which can be used for a wide range of purposes.

Convergence with Emerging Tech and its Impact | Afternoon Episode

Our afternoon episode began with an amazing conversation on ‘AI and Technology Convergence: The Future Impact’ with Liza Lichtinger , Founder, Managing Director, Future Design Life and Jibu Elias , Content and Research Lead, INDIAai . Liza emphasised on using automation to solve problems that can help humans liberate time and capitalise it to gain.

Following the session. we were joined by three stellar leaders Hina Dixit , Lead Investor (AI, AR, and Infrastructure & Web3), Samsung Next , Ritesh Arora , Chief Digital Officer, CEAT Limited and Rafee Tarafdar , CTO, 印孚瑟斯 talk about ‘Metaverse Trajectory Driven by AI and Blockchain’. Ritesh expressed his excitement about looking at the CX journey through the metaverse lens while Hina believed that metaverse has actual potential to become a $1 trillion annual revenue opportunity.

Next, we had an exclusive spotlight session on ‘Unlocking the power of conversational AI’ with Silvio Savarese , Chief Scientist, Salesforce . Sharing his thoughts on conversational AI, he said that AI can now replace complex & specialised skills of today’s interfaces with a skill everyone already possesses - conversation.

For a conversation on ‘Making Breakthrough with IPU: Chip on the Block needs Smartchip Innovation’, we were joined by Kumar Vemuri , VP, Architecture & Modelling, Imagination Technologies , Raja Manickam , CEO, Tata Group Electronics – OSAT and Supria Dhanda , Social Entrepreneur-in-making. The leaders talked about how the AI revolution has opened new challenges and opportunities for the semiconductor industry to solve. In addition to this, they also pressed on the importance of making AI a part of the academic curriculum.

Next, we had Ashray Malhotra , CEO, and Co-Founder, Rephrase.ai , Dr Jyoti Joshi , Co-Founder, Kroop AI .ai and Jibu Elias , Head Research & Content, INDIAai talking about The Good, The Bad, And the Future of Deepfakes. Despite an increasing number of positive applications for synthetic media, the negative implications of the use of deep fake also continue to rise. This session helped explore positive and negative applications and design considerations in many areas with deepfakes.

In the next session with Rahat Kulshreshtha , Founder & CEO, Quidich Innovation Labs on ‘Making every over, a super-over – AI as Gamechanger’. He spoke about AI bringing one of the greatest impacts in the sports industry, not only for the amateur and professional players but also for the fans. He showcased real case studies of how AI has enhanced the viewer and can experience and how the advances in AI, metaverse can create even more immersive experiences.?

Following up, Saket Dandotia , Co-Founder, Magnifi , took the stage, talking about Advancing Sports and Sportspersons through AI. He focused on the use of AI in sports, the importance of sports data, and how AI helps coaches and analysts make better decisions in sports along with the performance of the player which can also be enhanced with real-time feedback.

Next up, sharing his thoughts on ‘Future of Trust with AI: Cracking down digital warfare and misinformation’, Andres Diana , Chief Product Officer, Accrete AI spoke about the problem that we face today with misinformation and how we can tackle it. AI can help process the noise coming from multiple channels and process meaningful information for both government and commercial sectors. To do this, trust in AI needs to be built.

Post this, we had Aamod Sathe , Director and Analytics Lead, Home and Work, Meta , on AI & The Future of Work – The Good, Ambitious and Unknown. He laid focus on the need for business leaders to develop a working knowledge of how AI will be an enabler when it comes to human-machine collaboration, in completing tasks. He also delved into current use cases and the key messages from research on the future.

Following this session, we were joined by Jaspreet Bindra , Founder, Tech Whisperer talking about The Impact of Creative AI: Complementing the human mind. According to him AI is catching up really fast with humans when it comes to music and creativity. Bindra also delved deeper into the subject of whether this proximity of AI will antagonise humans or compliment them.

Next, we had a session by Dr JT Kostman, CEO, ProtectedBy.AI talking about being At the Intersection of AI & Psychology. According to Dr. Kostman, with recent developments, industry can finally move from the age of innovation to the age of implementation. He spoke in detail about the concept of ‘collective intelligence’ and how AI can help collect, collate, and integrate various concepts into a single entity.?

For the last session of the day, we had Alan Trefler , CEO & Founder, Pegasystems talk about ‘Should AI have Empathy’. He spoke about the role of empathy and emotional intelligence in designing inclusive technologies and deconstructing the biases encoded into AI. Trefler pressed upon the fact that in order to have effective AI, it is important to interpret & put together all elements to figure out what to do. This helps organisations understand the customer better & plan next actions.

Conclusion

The second day of NASSCOM XperienceAI Summit 2022 was a power packed day of learning and knowledge sharing. While the experts talked about various practical applications of AI like in sports and security, they also tried to find answers to some tough questions like the misuse of deepfake and more.

This year’s NASSCOM XperienceAI Virtual Summit saw the entire AI ecosystem come together to discuss building, regulating, and implementing for necessary AI impact and attempted to answer questions on challenges and roadblocks.
