AI and Electric vehicles A $7000 Tesla or $5000 Chinese equivalent version ?

Technological advances in Solar, Wind and Battery (SWB) coupled with massive reductions in costs are making renewable energy a major factor in manufacturing. The consumer costs of electric? vehicles (EVs)? is expected to reduce drastically by 2030 because of reduced costs of batteries and reduced manufacturing costs ( due to very low cost of energy, new materials? and extensive? deployment of robotic workforces ). Already in China you can order a 5-seater SUV electric vehicle ( EV ) with 300-400 km range? for about $9200? and 2 other Chinese companies are offering 4-seater Compact EVs with a range 120-220km? for $4000 and $5000? Even Tesla have announced? they expect to have a $7000 electric Tesla available next year and? $5000 Tesla with a hydrogen engine? soon thereafter ) These are not some substandard vehicles but? will have similar features and even additional features than are in a current normal mid-range family cars. The world is changing.

?In addition, the much lower fuel and maintenance cost? ( 20 moving parts in EVs?? instead of 2000 parts in the ICE vehicle) and much longer? lifespan? of 400,000+ miles- which can be extended to 1 million miles? for? EVs rather than just the 150,000 or so? miles for an ICE vehicle)? will make? EVs much more attractive than ICE vehicles for consumers and will lead to further expansion of EVs. This will also radically change? and benefit? Taxi companies who would now need to buy only 1 good Electric vehicle ?to cover 1 million miles rather than the 7? ICE vehicles in succession they would have had to buy in the past. This will allow them to reduce their fleet sizes by 80%. It will also cut their operating costs to about 1/7th because of the significantly reduced running and maintenance costs of EVs. This? gets even better for them when use of ?self- driving? Autonomous Electric Vehicles ( EVEs) is given approval. This will also make it less likely that people? buy? several cars for a? multi person household? as the same ?self-driving car can drop off someone at work and then return home? by itself to be used repeatedly for different? journeys by other family members rather than? being parked? all day at work.

?This is already leading to significant decline in new ICE? vehicle sales and will result in the? effective total demise of new ICE vehicle purchases as a mode of private transport and even in their use in commercial transport in the high-income countries within 5-6 years. There has already been a 20% decline in global ICE vehicle sales between 2017 and 2022 . Ford is now cutting 4000 jobs in Europe mainly due to reduced demand for their ICE vehicles? and the main Japanese companies are experiencing falling profits . Some major? manufacturers ( e.g. Volkswagen and General Motors) intend to phase out ICEs by 2035 .

?

?The value of new ICE vehicles will drop drastically in the next few years because of massive oversupply which in turn will make 2nd hand ICE cars worthless and will also kill the? off the ancillary dependent trades like car motor traders and ICE vehicle repair garages.?? Even some of the car manufacturers that have pivoted? from ICE? vehicle manufacture to EVs will have difficulties to survive against the much more competitive prices of Chinese vehicles . In addition the consumer demand even for EV s is likely to drop drastically? because of self -driving cars and that demand will reduce further soon afterwards, because of the new types of services that Taxi companies will be able to offer in future

?Electric vehicles? (EVs) ( or maybe even hydrogen powered vehicles? )? especially when regulatory approvals are given for autonomous (self-driving ) will replace almost all petrol-powered Internal Combustion Engine (ICE ) vehicles and will spread rapidly across the richer countries and eventually (perhaps only a few years later )? around the world.? This will further stimulate the rapid demise of ICE vehicles and lead to further expansion of EVs. Taxi company operating costs of running? a vehicle fleet? will plummet drastically? especially when they can deploy electric? RoboTaxis. This will allow them to offer new types of services? to private individuals and even municipalities which were not possible before. This will be a further devastating blow to vehicle manufacturers including those who have pivoted to EV manufacture.

??Taxi companies offering “Transport as a? Service” ( TaaS)? subscriptions at very low? competitive prices. will become a low-cost alternative transport option. The annual costs of using TaaS for all? family journeys and transport? needs will work out cheaper, not just compared to buying and running a new? private car but will be even cheaper than just the running costs alone of an? existing privately owned vehicle. There will be no? reason in future to buy or operate your own? private vehicle if you can just order any? trip on any kind of vehicle? to anywhere at any time you may want from your TaaS provider .It will be like ordering a pizza and? having? the specified type of vehicle,? depending on your need , delivering itself to your door? 24/7 at a very low cost. It is even possible that it will no longer be necessary for city administrations to? operate municipal bus companies as the Taxi companies could provide Robobuses as TaaS services? running along specified bus routes? and being reimbursed on passenger miles delivered. Low volume / social routes might even be subsidised giving a higher fee per passenger mile provided by the Taxi company . This will be a much cheaper option for city administrations.??

?

These services and radical changes in societal attitudes to and use of private transport will have a major impact on the use of space in cities and will offer opportunities to make cities more attractive places to live and work . This will also have a devastating impact on the? oil companies and lead to their total demise . These matters will be discussed in a future article.
