"AI in Education: A Techie's Vision for Transforming Learning in India"

15 years back as an enthusiast techie like me growing up in a world where technology is constantly evolving, I saw how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has started to reshape the education and IT sector in India. From smart classrooms to personalized learning experiences, AI is making waves in how students learn, teachers teach, and schools operate. During my initial career days, I’ve had the chance to work with EdTech companies in small ways and I believe it holds enormous potential for transforming education in my country. Here are some live use cases that show how AI is revolutionizing learning in India.
1. Personalized Learning at Scale
One of the biggest challenges in Indian schools, especially in government institutions, is large class sizes. It’s hard for a single teacher to address every student’s learning pace and style. This is where AI steps in. Platforms by major EdTech APPs use AI to offer personalized learning experiences. These platforms adapt to how fast or slow a student learns and provide tailored recommendations, quizzes, and practice material.
If you observe as a student who has tried today's learning apps, I can attest to how the app adjusts lessons to my progress. If I struggle with a topic, it gives me more practice questions and video explanations until I master it. This kind of AI-driven personalization ensures that no student is left behind, no matter how different their learning pace is. 2. Virtual Tutors and Assistants
In many parts of India, access to quality tutoring is a challenge. AI-powered virtual tutors are starting to fill this gap. Take, for instance, many an AI-based adaptive learning platform used in several Indian schools. Few EdTech apps help students, especially in subjects like mathematics, by identifying their weaknesses and providing immediate feedback.
I’ve used similar tools to learn programming, and these virtual tutors are always available—whether it’s midnight or a Sunday afternoon. For students in rural India or those who can’t afford private tutors, this kind of AI support is a game-changer.
3. Smart Classrooms and AI Tools for Teachers
In some private schools in India, AI is being integrated directly into classrooms. Smart boards and AI-driven software are becoming more common. These tools help teachers manage classroom activities and assess students in real-time. AI tracks student performance during lessons, and the teacher gets instant feedback on how well the class understands a topic.
I’ve seen this firsthand in a few schools, where smart boards have already been replaced in place of traditional blackboards. The AI in these systems helps teachers gauge student understanding through live quizzes and analytics, making the classroom more interactive and data-driven.
4. Predictive Analytics for Student Success
AI can predict student outcomes by analyzing large amounts of academic data. Schools and universities in India are using AI tools to track students’ performance over time. These tools help educators identify students at risk of falling behind and provide them with the support they need before it's too late.

For instance, during the pandemic, many schools used AI analytics to track students' performance in online classes. The system flagged students who were consistently scoring low or showing a drop in attendance, and the school quickly took steps to offer extra support to those students.
5. AI for Special Needs Education
One of the most heartening uses of AI in education is how it’s helping students with special needs. AI tools which it was developed in India, help children with speech disabilities communicate better. Using AI to understand speech patterns and suggest the right words, the app makes it easier for students with disabilities to engage in the classroom.
A classmate of mine who has a hearing impairment has benefited from AI-enabled subtitles during lessons. This ensures he can keep up with the class just like everyone else. AI’s ability to assist students with special needs makes education more inclusive.
6. Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide
India faces a significant gap between urban and rural education. AI is helping bridge this divide. Organizations like the Agastya Foundation use AI to bring quality education to rural schools via mobile science labs and AI-enabled digital classrooms. With AI, students in rural areas can access the same high-quality content and learning experiences as those in urban centers.
I recently visited a rural school as part of a project and saw how AI-driven video lessons were used to teach students science and math. These students, who may not have regular access to expert teachers, were still able to engage deeply with the content thanks to AI.
The Challenges Ahead
Despite all these benefits, there are challenges. AI adoption in Indian schools is still in its early stages, and many schools lack the infrastructure to implement it fully. In rural areas, internet connectivity and access to devices are still barriers. Additionally, teachers need proper training to effectively use AI tools in the classroom.
But the future is bright. As AI becomes more affordable and accessible, I believe it will help transform education in every corner of India.
To conclude AI in education is not just a dream for the future—it’s happening now. Whether it’s personalized learning, virtual tutors, or smart classrooms, AI is changing how students like me learn every day. In India, where access to quality education is uneven, AI offers a way to level the playing field and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. As a 15-year-old techie, I’m excited to see how AI will continue to shape the future of learning in my country, making it more inclusive, personalized, and efficient.
