On January 24, the world marked International Day of Education, a celebration of education's transformative power in fostering global peace and progress. This year’s theme, "AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation," challenges us to embrace innovation while safeguarding the human essence of learning — a mission that aligns deeply with Asante Africa Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth through education and leadership.
The Impact of AI on Education
AI is transforming education by personalizing learning, reducing administrative burdens, and increasing access to quality resources. However, it must be used thoughtfully to ensure it enhances — rather than replaces — critical thinking and creativity.

Here’s what Joyce Mbwambo, Head of Mbwei Primary School, had to say after we issued her school with Chromebooks:
"I would first like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Asante Africa for providing us with these devices. We did not have a single device before, making it challenging to perform tasks such as typing, preparing results, creating exams, or sending government reports. However, now we will be using Chromebooks extensively for improving our processes and teaching techniques. Now we have the tools and the knowledge to use them. I am ready to lead my fellow teachers in utilizing these Chromebooks."
We also successfully carried out the training sessions across 10 schools in rural Tanzania, equipping 82 teachers and one ward education officer in Lushoto. During the learning sessions, teachers exhibited enthusiasm and eagerness. They realized how digital tools could streamline their workloads and create a new and exciting learning environment for each student.
This highlights the transformative power of education in empowering individuals to create change within their communities. By equipping learners with the tools to navigate a tech-driven world while preserving their ability to think critically and act ethically, we ensure that education remains a powerful force for progress.
One inspiring example is Nakibuule, a young woman who was supported by Asante Africa. She pursued a degree in Automotive and Power Engineering, a male-dominated field, demonstrating the power of digital access and education to break down barriers and create opportunities for women in STEM. Nakibuule's journey exemplifies the transformative impact of our work.
Moreover, before graduating from our Youth Livelihood Program? (YLP), she attended our summit. Reflecting on the experience, Nakibuule shared,?
'By the time I left the summit, my confidence had changed. I had more motivation to go into leadership and I had the idea of helping others so they can also grow themselves.'?
This demonstrates the power of our programs to not only provide valuable digital skills but also to cultivate leadership qualities and inspire a desire to give back to the community. The Role of Educators in a Tech-Driven World

Naomi’s story is a powerful example of the impact of education and mentorship. Growing up in a small rural village in northern Kenya, Naomi witnessed many young girls in her community undergo FGM and early marriage. Despite these challenges, she managed to finish school and is now a teacher at Kitabor Primary School. Naomi believes that education is the key to combating these harmful practices and works tirelessly to educate her students and their families.?
