Yesterday, Monday, January 13th, 2025, the Department for Education announced a ground-breaking initiative: £1 million in funding has been awarded to 16 EdTech companies to develop AI tools that will revolutionise feedback and marking in classrooms. This move aims to enhance education standards by freeing up teachers to focus on what they do best – teaching.
Artificial Intelligence is no longer a concept of the future; it is a driving force in organisations worldwide, enhancing productivity and supporting individuals with daily tasks. Through this funding, learners are poised to benefit from a higher standard of teaching, enabled by technology designed to improve both efficiency and outcomes.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasised Britain’s ambition to lead the world in AI innovation. He stated:
"AI isn't something of the future, over the next hill; it is the present, it's already here, in Britain.”
“AI can help teachers plan lessons tailored to your children's specific needs. And we will make sure that this technology is safe."
Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, echoed this sentiment: "High-quality teaching is the single biggest driver of high standards in school. Through harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence, we can get teachers at the front of classrooms doing what they do best – teaching."

Technology Secretary Peter Kyle added: "AI has the power to transform education by helping teachers focus on what they do best – teaching. This marks a real shift in how we use technology to improve lives and unlock the near-boundless potential of AI for our classrooms."
As an independent training provider, we welcome this initiative with open arms. Every moment we can give back to our teachers to support learners represents an investment in success beyond imagination. Exceptional tutors, equipped with time and resources to dedicate to their students, are the foundation of transformative education.
Noel Johnson, CEO of Springfield Training, remarked: "This is an exciting step forward for education. The integration of AI tools will empower teachers to focus on personalising learning experiences and maximising the potential of every student. It's an innovation that truly aligns with our vision of supporting learners to achieve extraordinary success."
With this funding, the future of education looks brighter than ever, driven by AI innovation and a commitment to excellence in teaching. At Springfield Training, we look forward to seeing the incredible impact this initiative will have on learners, teachers, and the education sector as a whole.
Let’s embrace this opportunity to shape the next generation of education standards and continue our mission to empower learners to thrive in an AI-enhanced world.
