Persistent Systems delivers Infrastructure-based Regional Operation Network (IRON) comms solution to a GCC country for coastal security

IRON will link tower-based antennas and ship-based, data radios to facilitate surveillance and tracking of maritime activity in one of world’s busiest shipping lanes.

NEW YORK, New York. – April 23, 2024 – Persistent Systems, LLC (“Persistent”), a world leader in mobile ad hoc networking (MANET), has begun delivery of its Infrastructure-based Regional Operation Network (IRON) to an unnamed Gulf Cooperation Council country via Vertex International, the company’s local supplier/reseller to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The IRON solution, which includes Integrated Sector Antennas mounted high on a series of coastal towers and MPU5 radios on littoral patrol ships and at maritime operations centers, will support the real-time surveillance and tracking of illicit activities and incursions in coastal waters.

“Delivering IRON provides an upgrade in the Gulf region security and surveillance,” said Thomas Hanlon, director of Business Development for Persistent’s International Team. “It will facilitate the seamless transfer of voice, video, text, GPS and other sensor data over significant distances helping to secure maritime territory crucial to state security and the global economy.”

Persistent’s Wave Relay? MANET is a robust, self-healing, high-throughput, peer-to-peer network. Employing fixed antennas, IRON eliminates blind spots in the network, to extend this tactical MANET across an entire maritime region. In March 2023, the U.S. Air Force purchased IRON into order to roll it out across various Air Force bases (25,000 square miles) as part of the Regional Operating Picture (ROP) program.

Company officials view this first IRON deployment to a GCC country, as a testament to the Wave Relay’s strength and reliability.
