Lastly, the issue of safety is gaining attention. In the short term, people are rightly worried about AI models generating hallucinations—confident but incorrect information. This is particularly concerning when LLMs are applied in safety-critical environments like healthcare or legal services. But these concerns extend all the way up to existential debates about Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and whether advanced models could threaten humanity. Are we headed toward a future where AI is a tool for human flourishing, or are we stumbling toward a dystopia where machines outsmart their creators? These concerns fuel much of the regulation discourse, particularly around frontier models and their oversight.

Good article Steve. It's all about economics. EU is highly powered by life sciences; the EU AI act protects and accelerates them. It works for them. Divergently in the U.S., there are multiple economic interests tied with Big Tech. The whole world will eventually standardize on the EU AI act but the poliitics between now and then will be noisy and brutal. It's best to block out the noise and prepare imo. Whiners crack me up because there's multiple ways to help prepare: NIST AI RMF, IEEE UL 2933 etc. in ways that are synergistic and additive. .02c
