AI Could've Saved Eva

I’ve been quiet on LinkedIn for almost a year — my head down and completely focused on investing in and building AI ventures. I had planned on writing an article this weekend to share what I’ve been up to at AIXCS over the past year as we come out of stealth mode. Our website went live just this past week. I was excited to tell you all about it.

But then, something heartbreaking happened. Friday morning at 1 a.m., I had to rush Eva to the emergency clinic. When we got there, they told me she was already gone. I'm still in shock. Just minutes before, I was home, holding her in my arms as she took her last breaths, gasping for air. All I could do was call out her name and hold her close to my chest.

Eva and I were close. Although I was hesitant about getting another cat, Eva bonded with me quickly. She was beautiful. The cutest and most playful kitten. She loved to knead (biscuits) on my chest and then curl up on my pillow next to me. She'd wake me up with her meows and headbutts (bunting), which is how cats show affection. Sit with me in the office for hours listening and watching me type away.

What happened? My wife and I had taken Eva to the vet just a few hours earlier because she wasn't eating properly and was getting weaker by the day. They gave her some shots for a possible infection and put her on IV fluids because she was dehydrated. This was after she'd been to the vet the previous Friday, where she was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal issue and given special cat food for sensitive stomachs.

She seemed to be getting better, so her death and our anguish were even more devastating. It felt like she was recovering, and then within two days, she went from getting better to being buried.

It turns out she had kidney problems and possible respiratory issues. We took her to two vets over the week and got different diagnoses from both doctors. They said it's hard to diagnose kittens because they're so tiny, so they have to eliminate possibilities one by one and can't do extensive testing.

It's heartbreaking to think that Eva's life could've been saved if we had access to better diagnostic tools. That's why I'm so passionate about using AI to revolutionize veterinary and medical care. AI could save millions of animals (and humans) each year who die because they don't get the proper diagnosis.

Eva is the inspiration for us launching the development of our AIXCURE platform. Connecting AI scientists, investors, corporates, and industry professionals to accelerate the development and go to market for AI-powered medical and health solutions.

Imaging Analysis: AI can assist in analyzing medical images such as X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds. Machine learning models can detect abnormalities with high accuracy, often more quickly than a human radiologist could, leading to faster diagnosis and treatment.

Personalized Treatment Plans: AI systems can analyze an individual’s medical history, genetic information, and current health status to recommend personalized treatment plans. This could include suggestions for medication, diet, or lifestyle changes tailored to the specific needs of the patient.

Predictive Health Monitoring: Wearable devices equipped with sensors can collect data on vital signs and activities. AI can process this data in real time to predict potential health issues, allowing for preemptive care.

Research and Drug Development: AI can accelerate the pace of veterinary research by analyzing complex biological data to discover new treatments and drugs for diseases.
