???? UK’s ICO Launches Follow-up Consultations on Generative AI

The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched the second round of consultations on generative AI development and use. This consultation focuses on the application of the data protection principle of purpose limitation throughout the generative AI lifecycle and sets out the current analysis of the ICO and the policy position that the ICO wants to consult on.

The ongoing analysis presents a useful perspective on how to enhance compliance with data protection regulations and uphold public trust in generative AI. It also signals a chance for the UK’s AI-focused companies and startups to participate in the UK’s emerging AI framework by helping the ICO with its consultation points.

???? US House Representatives Announce Task Force for AI Oversight

A bipartisan task force on AI has been launched by US House Speaker Mike Johnson and other representatives. Comprising 12 republican and 12 democrat members, this task force aims to produce a comprehensive report with guiding principles and forward-looking recommendations for AI policy.

This initiative underscores the continued emphasis on AI compliance in the US and sends a clear signal that the importance of AI safety and compliance should be taken seriously.

???? India Introduces Draft AI Regulation

India is working on a draft regulation for AI, anticipated to be released in early summer 2024. The regulation aims to promote economic growth, mitigate risks, and enhance India's global competitiveness.

Once implemented, India will join China and the EU as one of the largest jurisdictions with its own AI regulatory framework, and bring about new challenges for individuals and organizations involved in AI innovation within India.

???? Japan Establishes AI Safety Institute

The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) in Japan has established the AI Safety Institute to address international concerns about AI safety. Tasked with auditing and evaluating standards related to AI safety evaluation, the Institute aims to enhance Japan's regulatory framework in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies.
