It's important to note the risks and challenges that come with this democratisation. For example, there is a potential risk of over-reliance on AI, which may hurt the development of skills. Also, users might trust AI more than they should.

Unequal access to pro versions of AI models can lead to dramatically different learning experiences. The cost curve of technology adoption needs to continue to decrease to make it more accessible.
  • Job Market Impact There's a growing fear, particularly in places like Kenya, that AI could negatively impact entry-level job opportunities in fields like data science.
  • Bias and Relevance AI models need to be designed with equity in mind from the outset. Ensuring cultural relevance and pedagogical depth when scaling AI-driven learning experiences is crucial.
  • Over-Reliance and Skill Development Students may overestimate their learning with AI, potentially hindering the development of critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. Educators play a critical role in ensuring that students embrace technology in the right way and focus on developing essential skills.
  • Evolving Role of Educators It's important to define the evolving role of educators in an AI-integrated environment. Educators can use AI to scale their efforts and get time back, allowing them to focus on one-on-one interactions with students.
  • Misapplication of AI There is a risk that AI is used in ways that it is not ready for.
  • The risk of loneliness A key risk is that education could become lonelier if AI tutors replace human interaction.
