AI, Citizen Science & Modern-Day Social Justice - Are You Ready?

AI & the Future of Sustainability: Are We Ready for what’s coming next?

The clock is ticking on the 2030 Agenda, and achieving the SDGs demands more than ambition - it requires action driven by science and data. Enter AI: a powerful tool to transform complex data into clear insights, empower ‘citizen scientists,’ and make sustainability everyone’s business. But could AI go even further - helping us set the next generation of global goals?

Let’s explore the possibilities?? AI & the Future of Sustainability: Are We Ready for what’s coming next?

?Interactive vs Immersive Experiences – why it should matter to you.

?Modern museums, science centers, and public spaces are no longer places where you just look - they’re places where you live the experience. Two buzzwords dominate our landscape: interactive and immersive.

Interactive experiences put you in the driver’s seat - you push, swipe, take actions, or speak, and the exhibit responds. It’s a back-and-forth dialogue, a digital conversation between you and the installation.

Immersive experiences, on the other hand, pull you into an entirely new reality. It’s more than engagement - it’s total absorption. Think multi-sensory environments where you don’t just witness the story; you become part of it. One gives you control. The other consumes you.

How do museums influence modern-day social justice campaigns?

Thursday, 20 February 2025 was World Day for Social Justice and it sparked an interesting conversation within our team: Should museums simply preserve the past, or should they provoke the present?

Do you think that this could be the truth - if museums aren’t making you uncomfortable in some way, they aren’t doing their job. Social justice demands inclusivity, bold advocacy, and the courage to challenge accepted norms. Museums shouldn’t just act as ‘archives’ of history - they should be arenas for debate, platforms for critical conversations, and spaces that amplify voices that history tried to silence. They should be agents of change. Do you agree?

The power of a museum lies in its ability to disrupt dominant narratives. Exhibits can confront visitors with inconvenient truths, reframe historical events through new lenses, and force us to question what we’ve been taught. When museums spark critical conversations about systemic injustice, they don’t just educate - they agitate. And in a world desperate for change, maybe that’s exactly what we need.

Bringing wetlands to life on World Wetlands Day (03 February 2025)

For many, wetlands exist only in textbooks and documentaries, or are regarded as nothing more than wastelands – so how can we protect what we’ve never experienced? ‘Our River of Grass’ exhibit at the Frost Museum of Science changes that. Packed with interactive technology, it immerses children in a dynamic wetland world where they don’t just learn about ecosystems - they engage with them.

One of the most impactful features of the exhibit is its hands-on water dynamics game. Using log props, children can physically alter the river’s flow, simulating how dams and stream diversions impact wetlands. In real-time, children can observe how the downstream ecosystem reacts to their actions – whether it’s fish struggling to swim upstream, plant life wilting, or water levels fluctuating unpredictably.

By playing with these variables, young minds absorb the reality of the environmental balance in a way that sticks.

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – Wonderdal, an innovative kids’ edutainment centre located at Hazendal Wine Estate

“We conceptualized the edutainment centre by identifying key learning goals, such as promoting environmental awareness, healthy living, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills. ?A strong focus was placed on user experience and designing for inclusivity, ensuring the space would cater to children of diverse ages and abilities.”

We went to Riyadh!

Last week we had the privilege of attending the @IAAPA Middle East Trade Summit 2025 in Riyadh to connect with leading innovators in the visitor attractions sector.

It’s always inspiring to join a global community of innovators pushing the boundaries of visitor attractions. As you know, ?a lot of our work is expanding into visitor attractions and urban placemaking, and attending events such as IAAPA keeps us ahead of the experiential design curve.

Integrating experiential design into urban design will create future cities where citizens and visitors feel so much more connected with urban and natural spaces.

We hope you enjoyed exploring our latest projects and initiatives. Stay connected for more exciting updates, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas – we’d love to hear from you!
