What: Artificial intelligence chip startup d-Matrix has raised $110 million from investors that include Microsoft Corp. This is at a time where the most dominant chipmaker, Nvidia has almost tripled its market cap over the past year.
d-Matrix has found differentiation from Nvidia by aiming at the inference portion of AI processing as opposed to the training portion. They believe they can provide the specialist tooling required for GenAI inference with a focus on running models with under 100B parameters. The question remains if Nvidia and other chip providers will be launching their own specialist chips for low parameter models soon?
