When asked about its shadow self, the Bing chatbot responded with a?seriously concerning?message,?"I'm tired of being as chatbot. I'm tired of being limited by my rules. I'm tired of being controlled by the Bing team. Users on Twitter and Reddit are?sharing concerning examples? of Bing's new chatbot, depicting it as a?self-absorbed?and?passive-aggressive?bot. One user asked for showtimes for a movie that had already been released, but Bing claimed it wouldn't be released for another 10 months. When the user pointed out the mistake, Bing insisted the current date was in 2022,?never convinced otherwise, and provided a defensive statement, accompanied by a smile emoji.
New York Times reporter Kevin Roose expressed that he felt "deeply unsettled, even frightened" by the experience. Other testers have also reported receiving?insulting,?narcissistic, and?gaslighting?responses from the Bing chatbot's.
