AI Chat Battle Begins and New Models Arise

AI Chat Apps

OpenAI started with a dominant lead. That gap is closing if not already closed. The fact of the matter is that now, you have options. The big-name options include:

• ChatGPT - the reigning champ with a "Plus" membership option
• Bard - just saw some recent improvements that make this worth using
• Claude 2 - boasts a 100,000 token limit and a free introductory period

The battle has officially begun. There are plenty of people out there putting these three head-to-head(-to-head). These are the main apps to keep an eye on.

Google's Bard Updates

Several new features have been introduced to enhance productivity. Users can now pin and rename conversations with Bard, making it easier to revisit previous prompts and discussions. Python code generated by Bard can now be exported to Replit, in addition to Google Colab, catering to coding tasks. Sharing responses with others has been made simpler through shareable links. Lastly, users can now upload images to Bard and utilize the capabilities of Google Lens for image analysis and generating captions. Currently, this image feature is available in English and will expand to other languages soon.

Anthropic's Claude 2 Beta

Claude 2 demonstrates advancements in coding, math, and reasoning. It achieved a higher score on the multiple-choice section of the Bar exam and performed above the 90th percentile on the GRE reading and writing exams. It also excels in quantitative reasoning similar to the median applicant. Claude 2 allows input of up to 100K tokens and can generate longer documents, making it capable of handling technical documentation or even entire books.

Several businesses are already utilizing the Claude API. Jasper, a generative AI platform, praises Claude 2 for its ability to handle long-form content and low-latency use cases. Sourcegraph, a code AI platform, uses Claude 2's improved reasoning and larger context window to assist developers with coding tasks more effectively.

Personally, I tried Claude 2 and wish that it was a little more self-aware. When I asked if it could write code, it told me that it could not. When I asked it to write code for me, it will do so but it will more often than not tell you that it can provide example code, and has somewhat of a hard time generating code "from scratch" based on a prompt.

xAI - The Result of 10,000 GPUs

If we have been connected for some time, then you remember back in April I posted about Elon Musk buying 10,000 GPUs and stating that he was going to create a model that helped us understand the universe. His reasoning was that, surely, any model built on helping humans understand the universe would not want to destroy it, or humans.

Enter xAI. The website is rather brief but it mentions the goal of understanding the true nature of the universe. It states that more information will be coming in the next few weeks or months (rather large span of time to be waiting if it is months...). It then goes on to list a pretty prestigious team of people including previous members of OpenAI, DeepMind, Microsoft, and more.
