AI is revolutionizing the recruiting process, offering companies advanced tools to streamline hiring. With 80% of recruiting technology vendors expected to embed AI capabilities into their offerings by 2027, if you don’t yet have access to AI features in your recruiting software stack, you likely will soon. But how do job seekers feel about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in recruitment??
Insights from Capterra’s Job Seeker AI Survey and Brian Westfall ’s analysis reveal that while 65% of candidates view AI in hiring positively, there's a fine line—38% of job seekers would turn down a job offer if the process feels overly automated.
Key insights from our survey
?? 70% think AI is less biased than human recruiters
?? However, 60% are more likely to apply if they can speak with a human at any point during the application process, and 58% prefer knowing that humans make the final hiring decisions.
“AI is a powerful tool, but relying too heavily on it could push away top talent. A thoughtful balance between automation and personal interaction is essential for both efficiency and maintaining a strong candidate experience.” - Brian Westfall, Principal HR Analyst at Capterra
How to implement AI without losing the human touch
If you're exploring AI in your recruiting tech stack, striking the right balance between automation and personalization is crucial. According to our survey, candidates are most comfortable with AI being used for tasks like ensuring equal opportunity and candidate sourcing. However, they still expect human involvement, especially when it comes to communication and decision-making.
To avoid alienating top talent:
?? Start small: Begin by using AI in areas where candidates are most comfortable, like ensuring unbiased hiring or initial resume screening.
?? Be transparent: Clearly communicate where AI is being used and reinforce that hiring decisions remain human-driven. This can increase candidate confidence and encourage applications.
?? Keep it personal: Always offer candidates the option to connect with a human recruiter to discuss their concerns or progress.
With AI already integrated into many recruiting processes, the future of hiring is here. Companies that strike the right balance between automation and human touch will gain a competitive edge, attract top talent, and enhance their employer brand.
