Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of Computer Science that refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines. Traditional computer programs execute a predefined set of operations, precisely as defined by the programmer. AI programs; however, are flexible to adjust their parameters to learn the best solution to a problem on their own. The basis for designing an AI program is to mimic human-like intelligence and cognition. These algorithms can find meaningful patterns in the information and make suggestions or decisions in a specific task. With the advances in technology, access to a vast amount of heterogeneous data and enough computing power is provided to leverage this information. As a result, AI technologies offer enormous benefits to many aspects of our lives, such as health care, autonomous driving, and education.

Building AI-empowered digital education platforms is an active area of research and business.

In recent years, a growing number of researchers and companies have been developing several learning management tools. Moreover, the current pandemic has shifted the landscape meaningfully, forcing almost all instructors and mentors to rely on technology for virtual learning.

Many projects are recently underway that use AI to help tutors and learners have a better educational experience, such as personalization of the education, availability of resources at any time, and providing more accessible content.

One of the most essential properties of AI for students can be personalized learning which focuses on their individual needs. It offers learning material based on their weaknesses, and each course can be presented to the student with particular structures, testing, and feedback.

Personalization is a new paradigm in education, and AI can help teachers deliver truly personalized learning to improve student outcomes.

AI provides the opportunity for learners to make informed decisions in selecting their curriculum and teacher. The educational platforms provide contact to many teachers, enabling students to communicate with specialists all over the world and find an appropriate tutor based on their ability without incurring traveling. Additionally, AI-based platforms can help tutors to improve their time management. Educators spend a lot of their time performing non-teaching tasks, which can be overwhelming. AI can help free up educators’ time by automating tasks, analyzing students’ performance, and suggesting a useful plan. AI provides tutors with a better understanding of how their students learn and solve problems and allows them to customize the program of studies accordingly. Besides, AI helps instructors to update the content of the lessons and keep their information up to date.

From another perspective, there are some disadvantages to artificial intelligence too, such as an addiction to technology, lack of personal connections, and unemployment of educators because of the implementation of AI. In conclusion, a balance has to strike between machines and people. The aim of artificial intelligence is not to replace educators, it is to make their jobs easier. AI ethics is a vast area of research and discussion in many fields. Everything about the strengths and weaknesses of artificial intelligence depends on the users, and their point of view and everyone should pay attention to the pros and cons of using artificial intelligence, depending on their circumstances.

Overall, it seems that Artificial Intelligence has found its way into the educational system. Hence, to keep abreast of the cutting-edge technology in the modern world, employing novel technologies cannot be ignored, since they would direct us to be up to date with the fast-changing societies.
