AI, Artificial Intelligence Standardization @ 2023 - SC42 & how it's related to AI Risk Management Assessment and Regulation
Last week, ISO/IEC SC42 met for it's Half Yearly meeting. SC42 is the world's leading AI Standardization committee. After a long corona break, it was the first hybrid session with boots on the ground (more so dress shoes) in Berlin. I have fireside chat stories on how I handled virtual only meetings during corona, for example: finishing to read 'Pesach''s 'Hagada' with my family during the evening of the holiday and then running up the stairs to connect remotely to an sc42 meeting..but that's all for a different article :) In short, I'm Humbled to represent Israel in this important committee both as Head Of Delegation and Expert, Ever since 2018.
These are interesting facinating and challenging times as we push standardization forward in parallel to the way in which the technology itself and industry are both taking shape expo-exponentially. Back in 2018 when we coined the term trustworthiness of AI in standardization, not many understood why a technical committee is dealing with such issues beyond data and architecture. Today however, it seems like everyone are talking about trustworthiness and Ethics of AI, so we have come a long way and it's a good sign..but we have much more work moving forward.
We continue to push for clear normative standards as to help close the standardization-regulation gap. There is a lot to cover with this immense body of work by the committee's experts - will update this article covering more main topics in the coming weeks (as time permits - since it has been the most busy April/May I have ever experienced - with news and advancements coming out on an hourly basis. The rate of innovation is simply astonishing on all fronts), so stay tuned.
Till then, I'm happy to see the work on 42006 moving forward as to take the risk management framework to a practical domain, by getting more granular re #AI #AIAudit #AIAssessment and #AIRiskManagement #AIRegulation:
42006?“Information technology — Artificial intelligence — Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of artificial intelligence management systems, SC 42 approves the clarification of the Scope of ISO/IEC 42006 with the following changes: ".. These additional requirements enable accredited certification bodies to reliably #audit management systems for organizations that provide, develop or use AI systems according to ISO/IEC 42001. These additional requirements enable accredited certification bodies to make an evaluation and decision for certification."

Ping me if you want to know more on how does it all tie in to the #EUAIA (EU AI ACT), UK AI Act, US NIST's AI RMF (Risk Management Framework) and other global efforts, re the risks emanating from #Chatgpt and alike.

Special thank you to DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V. & Katharina Sehnert for hosting and Wael William Diab & Heather Benko for navigating the sc42 ship, with this immense body of work, so gracefully and professionally. Kudos to all project leaders, veterans and Novices!
