AI Appreciation Day
Integrating AI into our lives

AI Appreciation Day

Today marks AI Appreciation Day - a relatively new addition to the calendar of cultural events and days of celebration that was launched in 2021. Although AI Appreciation Day is only a few years old, AI itself really began a long way back in our history.?

In the 1950's Alan Turing’s pioneering work on computers created the theory that digital computers can imitate any formal reasoning process is often cited as the beginning of Artificial Intelligence as we refer to it today. But really if you look around, most parts of our world have been touched by machinery making life more efficient, which in itself is a form of AI.??

While AI has the potential to provide us with many benefits, many people are unsure about potential negative aspects as well. One of the biggest fears people have, when discussing AI, is that all our jobs may become obsolete, and we will be overrun by machines and robots. But according to a World Economic Forum research on the Future of Jobs, AI will generate 58 million AI jobs this year - and that doesn’t mean it will replace human roles.

“This next generation of AI will reshape every software category and every business, including our own. Although this new era promises great opportunity, it demands even greater responsibility from companies like ours.”

Satya Nadella, CEO at Microsoft, 2023

This week, Russell wrote about the need for creating a culture of compassion, when working with AI, over at Unorthodox Blend this week - you can read that article here:

He discusses the responsibility that comes with advancing technologies, and how approaching this power with a human-centric approach is imperative, and will pay dividends in the long run.?

“Responsible AI is not just about liability — it's about ensuring what you are building is enabling human flourishing.”

Rumman Chowdhury, CEO at Parity AI, 2023

In this article, we also share how our group of agencies utilise AI, and ensure full transparency at all times about how we integrate it into our work:

It’s a learning curve, and something that will continue to evolve rapidly, but as change is the only constant for all of us, it’s something to get your head into sooner rather than later. You’ve actually already been doing it for years anyway with various hardware and software, just without labelling it as AI.
