An article in The Guardian newspaper published today, 27th March, reports that AI in the UK could lead to the loss of 8 million jobs. The UK population is 67 million, and the USA is 331 million, so extrapolate that out, and you get 40 million jobs lost in the USA. I have posted a link to the article on my newsfeed so you can read the entire article there.
I want to focus on what that scary headline means for career strategies and job seekers in the USA.
The idea of AI as an "apocalypse" for jobs is often a dramatic portrayal. In reality, the situation is more nuanced. While it's true that AI and automation can lead to the displacement of specific jobs, history shows that technological advancements also create new industries and job opportunities.
Expect a Tsunami of Content and AI-generated resumes.
They will drown job boards and recruiters in vast volumes of garbage. You need to stand out. My job is to help high performers, just like you, be recognized as outstanding candidates. It is my job to ensure you get that interview, and it's your job to land that amazing job.
Executives must create a personal brand that reflects their unique expertise and insights to succeed in the evolving job search landscape. Anything less than a 100% commitment to investing in your online brand and career documents won't cut it. Your single most significant task as an executive, for now, and years to come, is to develop your personal brand to rise above this tide of mediocrity.
The quality of your resume has long served as a powerful differentiator in one's career. However, in today's rapidly evolving job market, a high-caliber resume is on the verge of becoming even more instrumental to professional success. With technological advancements changing the nature of work and the hiring process growing increasingly competitive, those seeking new opportunities or career changes must ensure their resumes are finely tuned to represent their distinctive skills, experiences, and value propositions. By strategically crafting a resume highlighting one's unique strengths and qualifications in a clear, compelling format tailored to prospective employers, job seekers can maximize their chances of standing out from other applicants and progressing further in the hiring funnel. Now more than ever, your resume will shape first impressions and determine whether recruiters look closely at your candidacy. With so much at stake, investing the time and effort to craft the most vital possible resume has become necessary for navigating today's job market and advancing one's career.
The key takeaway is that AI is a significant factor in the job market but is not necessarily a doomsday scenario. For executives and C-suite, awareness and personal branding are critical. It's more about adaptation and preparedness. Workers and companies alike can benefit from understanding the potential of AI and preparing for the changes it will bring, so be prepared and aware.

Personal Branding Lacking in Career Plan
What do you do if your career development plan lacks personal branding?
What words do you hear when people describe you? Friends, colleagues, family business associates. What words are missing? What core competencies, areas of passion, and values differentiate you? To strengthen your brand as part of your career development strategy, you must first seek clarity regarding who you are personally and professionally. The words there and those not there are your map to defining your brand on LinkedIn, your resume, and your blog. Authenticity and the unique self-expression of who you are is the goal, and once you have clarity, you can fill those gaps.
?Late Career Resume
Make sure it looks good. Start with your most recent information and chronological resume. Showcase your pertinent work history and achievements early on. Detail your responsibilities and notable accomplishments. Measurable outcomes that highlight your abilities. Subheadings can be utilized for roles held over extended periods to underscore promotions or critical successes. Customizing the resume for specific job opportunities is paramount by emphasizing skills and achievements that closely align with the required qualifications. Max 2 pages. Remember, Bobby Lee Swagger. Sniper, tailor your resume for the job. Shotguns don't work, so aim for the specifics of the job role and align your skills and accomplishments.

7 个月I'm old enough to remember when the PC first came to market and there were all kinds of folks pontificating how that would harm the job market. In reality, technology almost always leads to growth in overall employment opportunities - typewriter repair people are very limited today, but look at the jobs the PC created. Will AI impact certain jobs - absolutely - to what extent is the question. Will certainly be interesting to see if the current hype and predictions come close to true or we see a much more nuanced and limited impact on the jobs predicted to be eliminated. Thanks for sharing and offering great advice on those building their careers. As someone closer to the end, I can say that this kind of advice is very much needed for those building and growing there careers.
