AI-aided Public Relations | Fola Daniel Adelesi

I shared this piece with my Professional Colleagues in the Public Relations space and I thought to make it public so that you can gain some insights from it.

I presume you have all heard about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the many wonders it can do for us today or in the coming generation. Just in case you haven't heard about it, well, you haven't missed much because it is much easier to explain today than it was some 5 years or more ago. There are apps, websites and services fully operational to explain the operations of AI and how far it can go.

For the purpose of this professional group, I thought to bring some of our colleagues up to speed with what's happening in the world of AI and how you can quickly leverage it for what you do. The more serious part is the fact that AI, if you do not continue to develop yourself, can threaten your job. If you are multi-skilled and a continuous learner, AI is programmed to learn from you and make other slow learners look smart. Why is that? AI simply leverages the collective intelligence that we have shared online to make more knowledge available to someone in a shorter time.

The days of AI are already here. It's not in the future. It is now! Your banks are already using AI to resolve customer complaints. That's why you don't get to chat with a person when you go to their website to complain. There's robot taking your questions and giving you near-accurate answers to your complaints. Some of them have gone as far as integrating AI into their social networks and whatsapp. When you try to chat with them and you're getting speedy answers, that's the work of AI using previous experiences from several customers with similar complaints to answer you almost effectively. When there are challenges or the answers you get aren't satisfactory, AI learns from you and uses your response or interaction to solve the problems of others coming after you.

Today, there's an AI app that designs graphics for you. All you have to do is enter the text and other relevant information. You will get a graphic design in a few seconds. It's www.jasper.ai This is a big threat to the job of creative designers or graphic designers. Again, if you are multi-skilled and a continuous learner, AI is programmed to learn from you.

We already have an AI service that records your video or audio meetings and transcribes the meeting in a few minutes to give you the report of the meeting. So picture a situation where you've just finished a 2-hour meeting and you need the report of that meeting immediately, you no longer need to depend on an assistant or team member who was also in the meeting ans just as tired as you are. AI can now sit in your physical or virtual meetings, record while you all discuss and send you a report of your meeting in less then three minutes. The great part of this is that it is near accurate and you only need to correct a few spelling errors or translate words not spoken in English. This service is provided by otter.ai and they already have a mobile app on your playstore.

The biggest and reigning one today is chat.openai.com or simply chatGPT on your play store. As I mentioned to someone, this app is crazy. You will understand by the time I tell you what it can do and the things I have tried with it in a few days of testing it.

ChatGPT can write a press release for you from scratch! Yes, you read that correctly. A few days ago while playing around with it, I asked it to write a press release to debunk allegations that our CEO stole company funds. I got the reply in less than 30 seconds - a full-blown and acceptable press release was ready. What else have I tried on this chatGPT that blew my mind? I asked the app to give me 100 inspirational topics for videos. Well, because it has limitations, it was able to generate 88 in less than a minute. Give me 20 topics on leadership. I got it. Give me 50 things on this and that... I got all my answers in less than a minute. This app can write blog posts and articles for you. It has also successfully co-authored its first academic paper which is now published online. I even tried topics on religious matters. I was impressed with the results. The only thing that was absent was the references to back up the point.

Were there limitations on the app? Certainly. Some of the topics I wanted it to generate didn't come easy so after generating more than seventy percent of the topics, I began to see a repetition of the topics. However, these are topics I would have needed hours or days to come up with. I got them in less than sixty seconds. While the app already does this much, it is still being improved upon through the collection of user experience and statistics for a better experience.

Sometimes, you may get error messages for some of your requests. If you try later, the same request that gave you an error message may provide impressive answers. The app does not have the option to go back to the home page. So you need to use a plus sign to enter new requests. Let me suggest you don't drive the app crazy as I almost did with so many requests. :) Did I say almost? Well, it's AI now. So I tried stretching it a bit. :)

So let's get to the point of writing this piece for you with more emphasis on ChatGPT and how it can make your work easier in the PR space.

1. You can write a Press Release with this in less than a minute.

2. This app can help you develop training or presentation topics around PR and other subjects in a minute.

3. The app provides speed for whatever you need to do rather than spending hours trying to get it done.

Bear the following in mind

1. If you are an average person, your job may soon be gone! The solution isn't fear but to develop yourself.

2. AI does not have emotions and does not understand contexts. Your have that superiority as a human being so you can leverage the collective intelligence that AI brings on board and add your human advantage or emotional intelligence and ability to discern and interpret contexts.

3. AI isn't an option. It has come to stay. Use it and don't fight it.

4. With AI, you can get more done in less time and little headache.

If you haven't started using it, I suggest you begin to take advantage of these platforms in some ways.

Please note that I am not suggesting you pass all your writings to AI apps. I am only saying these things make your job easier and faster. If you leave everything to AI, you will appear as a monotonous speaker. When people read some of the things you write, it may not make a lot of sense when the appropriate contexts aren't factored in. The other downside is the fact that someone else has access to the AI app you're using. If they enter the same things you entered into the app, they are likely to get similar answers. There is even an app now to detect if a job was done by AI to prevent students from just using AI apps to write their assignments.

Despite the limitations, there are smart ways you can use this to your advantage and appear as a 21st-century compliant PR practitioner.
