Welcome to the AI Chalkboard, your daily dose of AI news. Just like Mary Poppins, I’m here to give you a dose of AI news along with a spoonful of sugar to help it along.?

The news today includes some AI regulation, an opportunity to change the world with AI, and some education leaders backtracking on their ban of ChatGPT. Oh and I mention a song from 1984 that you’ll be humming to yourself all day as you use ChatGPT to perform all of your mundane tasks.?

So let’s hit the ground running this Monday morning and learn what happened in AI over the weekend.?

Leaders of the G7 discussed the creation and adoption of worldwide standards for AI.?They want to ensure that AI remains trustworthy and non-discriminatory and that the root of AI development remains within the shared democratic beliefs of these nations. (3 minute read)

Meta has introduced generative AI for advertisers.?AI Sandbox allows advertisers to choose to create different copy for ads that still hones in on their ad’s core idea but will increase their impressions on their ads using automation. (3 minute read)

The Gates Foundation has launched their AI Grand Challenge.?This challenges people to come up with ways to overcome everyday obstacles using AI. (2 minute read)

Apple has joined the list of companies that are banning the use of ChatGPT by staffers.?If you are currently using ChatGPT and other generative AI to shave time off your tasks you might be in for a big surprise… your employer might not be on board with your time saving tactics. Apple cites the fear that sensitive data could be compromised. (4 minute read)?

There is growing concern about the effect that generative AI will have on the field of Education.?As a former teacher I understand the frustration that ChatGPT is bringing to the classroom. This adds a layer to the idea of plagiarism that goes well beyond paying your buddy to write your essay and leads us firmly down the path to wondering, “How can we tell what is authentic anymore?”. I think Marie Curie said it best, “Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be?understood.”?Excuse me while I go and stare off into the abyss for a little while.?(15 minute read)

In other education AI news…NYC Public Schools reverses ChatGPT ban.?After initially banning ChatGPT due to the fear of cheating, NYC Public Schools is taking the bull by the horns and trying to successfully implement the use of ChatGPT. Cue REO Speedwagon singing “Can’t fight this feeling” … they’re trying to use ChatGPT to give them direction and make everything so clear.?I'll see myself out.?(3 minute read)
