AHF Harmonic Compensation in VSD Case

1.Project Overvie

The chemical plant uses a large number of high-power water pump equipment, which is matched with a large number of VSD installed for water pump control.

The large number of VSD equipment has caused serious harmonic distortion problems in the system, with a harmonic distortion rate of 35%, seriously affecting the safe and stable operation of the system. It is urgent to carry out harmonic control, clean the power grid environment, and avoid safety hazards.

2.?System Diagram and Load analysis

Two 10/0.4KV transformers are installed on site, with the main load being the water pump and the main harmonic source being the high-power VSD matched with the water pump.

3.Harmonic Compensation solution

Designed to install one 400A active power filter device at the lower end of two transformers on site, each used to control the harmonic current under this transformer

Due to limited installation space and considering cost reduction, the active power filter cabinet added at the lower end of the II section transformer is installed using the equivalent load side connection method.

Harmonic order 5/7, the current waveform presents a typical double headed waveform. Before the equipment treatment, the total harmonic distortion rate of the system reached 35.8%. After the equipment treatment, the total harmonic distortion rate of the system decreased to about 5%, and the waveform returned to normal. At the same time, all harmonics significantly decreased.

The main harmonic distortion order is 5/7 harmonic current distortion, and the current waveform presents a typical double headed waveform. Before the equipment treatment, the total harmonic distortion rate of the system reached 32.8%. After the equipment treatment, the total harmonic distortion rate of the system decreased to about 5%, and the waveform returned to normal. At the same time, all harmonics significantly decreased.
