Ahead Of The Negotiation Table
We started sixth grade with our teacher asking us two questions. First, he asked each of us our names. Then he asked us what job we wanted when we grew up.
We had big dreams! Some wanted to be pilots, bankers, journalists, engineers, teachers, or nurses. Some wanted to be doctors, while others wanted to be lawyers. But one kid wanted to be a fisherman, which made us laugh a lot and got him in trouble.
As we grew up, most of us ended up in different jobs than we had hoped for. This makes us wonder if our dreams really impressed our teacher or if we fooled ourselves.
It's about how life sometimes takes us in unexpected directions. Some people succeed, others don't, and we wonder why. We also think about what happens to people whose dreams don't come true.
We talk about how easy it is for kids to choose a job for their future. It's not easy to understand ourselves and turn our dreams into real goals. It's a test of our thinking, understanding, and how we use words to express our thoughts.
We know that real life is very different from school. Kids need to understand this and know that their decisions might change as they grow up and face challenges. People around them also influence their choices.
We say it's important to discover what you want to do early on, but it's okay if things change as you grow up. It's about finding what you love and protecting it with determination and self-control.
We ask ourselves if we've been fair and strong in building who we are from when we were young to now.
