To be ahead of its time...

To be ahead of its time...

With a history of nearly 150 years, the Shimadzu company knows what caring for the environment means.

In addition, the relationship to nature is part of Japanese culture. Imbued with Shinto values, the inhabitants of Japan are traditionally known for living in symbiosis with nature. Their vision of an environmentally friendly development model is unmatched anywhere else.

When Shimadzu engineers launched the new #LCMS range in 2009/2010 consisting of single quadrupole systems, triple quadrupole systems and a few years later Q-TOF couplings, they introduced the UFMS technologies.

UFMS stands for Ultra Fast Mass Spectrometry. For sure, bringing systems to market that were faster, more sensitive and more robust than what existed was one of the focuses. But if we look more closely, Shimadzu engineers had already taken into account constraints that have not been visible to everyone for many years until recent events shade light on them, namely:

- energy saving

- waste reduction

- consumption reduction

- increase of the lifetime of the systems

- ...

When we look in detail at the design of these #UFMS systems, they have since the beginning (2009) been built with the minimum of energy consuming elements such as rotary pumps (1 only), turbomolecular pumps (1 only), while many mass spectrometers on the market stack units to increase sensitivity...

These instruments are designed to be robust, consume less gas, less solvents, and reduce maintenance. They allow their users to analyze more samples at a lower cost!

For 10 years, Shimadzu has revolutionized the mass spectrometry market by introducing these technologies and pushing all manufacturers to follow suit.

So, yes, sensitivity, speed are necessary to improve the chromatographic analyzes for which these instruments are used, but must not only be at the service of our food safety, our health, our developments, ... but also also be at the service of the quality of our environment and preserve our future.

Take a chance to (re)discover the UFMS technologies with a new mindset: :-)

I think we can say that these engineers knew how to be ahead of their time!
