Ahead of EU elections: Cities underline need for green, democratic Europe

On the eve of the European elections, city leaders from across the continent gathered in Cluj-Napoca for the Eurocities Conference 2024, where they outlined their expectations for the EU institutions over the next five years. ?

Over 400 city representatives took part in the Eurocities Conference at the end of May, uniting with one voice to call on the EU to utilise the expertise of city administrations to build a sustainable, resilient and innovative future for Europe.?

At the conference, city mayors signed a major new declaration - The values that unite us - committing to uphold human rights and democracy. With support for far-right politicians expected to rise in the upcoming elections, the declaration underlines cities' support for an open, inclusive society.??

The winners of the Eurocities Awards 2024 were also announced during the event - with Gdansk, Madrid and Pau celebrating the success of their outstanding urban projects. ? ??
