Ah Spring

Artificial intelligence, that pernicious evil in all things these days, projected Virginia a solid win for the Democrats and Harris.

"No damn way!" This used to be as red a state as they came. What happened? I got angry and decided to sign up at the Republican headquarters for my county. Of course I signed up my wife too (even though I didn't ask her). At training, we watched a video and met real live party functionaries - paid employees for Trump but normally guys who could not get a job in television. We learned that there are these "deadbeat" Republicans who profess their party affiliation but have no record of voting. In 2020 and in 2022, despite the stakes, only 38% turned out to vote.

"Your job as Trump Campaign Captains is to wake up the base, get these people to vote early, and vote in such large turnout the results would be too big to steal!"

All fired up but low on sugar, I grabbed a slice of pizza, two chocolate donuts and Brenda got water. We loaded up the Subaru (yes, some Republicans drive Subarus) with Trump bling and went polling.

Finding addresses on a walk list on a well-traveled rural road was hazardous. We stayed together. I navigated and Brenda drove. The canned greeting was hard to remember so we became this kind of George Burns and Gracie Allen tag team for Trump. I do not like polling, probably my upbringing. You did not ask about a person's politics. But Brenda reveled in the mystery of it all. She worked for the Census Bureau, so she knows about people and bugging them at home. You stay in the lane as you approach the front door, do not walk on the grass, ring the bell, then step back off the porch so they can see you and decide by how their dogs reacted (or if they were smoking pot), whether to open the door or not.

We had our little elevator pitch, "Hi, we're Dean and Brenda. We are your neighbors and Trump Campaign Captains, and we'd like to know if you are voting this year, and if you are voting early or on election day." Then we would ask generally who they preferred. Welcome to Chesterfield and we soon discovered that America is diverse because there are things that bring some together to the great dissatisfaction of others.

Some homes were in the forests along busy roads through the trees where big ass trucks and soccer moms in a hurry tore down the lane. Some folks lived in sub-divisions of cul-de-sacs, cookie cutter houses, kid's toys in the yard, and sloped lawns that defied mowing. The exciting homes were those found down mysterious dirt paths. These deer trails wound through trees and meadows to end at a family compound, (if you can stand your kids and their kids then that is the way to live), where the secretive and self-reliant thrive.

The houses too differed. In one area along the Appomattox River, the neighborhoods were laid down like an onion. Each layer revealed and increasingly wealthy demographic. Beginning at River Road, the homes were modest 1,500-foot ranchers. The owners were hard workers or retirees trying to hang on to what they have. These became 2,700-foot McMansions, two stories tall with garage doors and finished, gabled attics inhabited by IT specialist, small business owners, former military with suspicious looks, and manager types. Going down, down, down one finally came to the lake homes; all brick estates boat houses where the Kennedy wannabe's sipped on cold glasses of Long Island Iced tea and the all the kids were above average (stole that from A Prairie Home Companion). The water people never answered their door - they had no time for us. We never found out if they preferred red or blue ballots but, their neighbors up the road a few houses or a boyfriend would crane their heads that way and whisper, "They're with Kamala." So, wealthy white women love Kamala but we don't know why.

On the north side of the lake and the north side of River Road all along the entire length of Church Road, was settled by black families maybe some going back to post-Civil War sharecroppers or from the inner cities after passage of the '67 Civil Rights Act. Didn't matter because this much was true. The men were undecided, and the women were 100%, no question about, Kamala (and don't you forget it). I guess for them, Kamala was not Trump and that was good enough. She looked like them, hallelujah. One offensive woman gave us a finger wagging and said, "I see you and I am NOT for that person whose name is on your hat!" Excuse us.

We came across just two men, one white and one black. Neither were voting. Each were staunch believers that it made no difference, their lives would still be just a terrible. The white guy (a welder or tradesman of some kind) did take a yard sign. He must have been one of those reluctant Republicans (I suspect reluctant Republicans were really just Independents in biker bandanas). The black man didn't say much. But he did look at us like we were crazier than shit for driving up Church Road trying to find someone dumb enough to say they liked Trump. We found out that many black man supported Trump - but they preferred to stay silent on the matter so as not to get a lecture from the local Baptist minister. As for the Harris campaign claims there are a significant bunch of Republican men who hate Trump and will vote Harris. Uh...no. This would be like just another misunderstanding. Harris meant Republican aardvarks, not single white men.

Out of 200 homes visited in rural, southwest Chesterfield County, 99 owners opened their doors to listen. Of these, four opened their door, saw our Trump bling, shook their head, and slammed the door. Not a hello, hell no, or goodbye, "SLAM." On the bright side, it was easy to complete those surveys.

The other 95 were family men with wives and children. Only one was a divorcee and one whose husband has passed. When it dawned on them that we really were part of the Trump campaign and not some locals trying to get them to sign up for their church, they began to open up. Though they came in all sorts, these people had one thing in common. The past three years were not kind. Harris offered them no assurance that the next four years would be better (and actually worse). There was no way in hell they wanted Harris in the White House. When asked why they all could agree Harris stood for nothing except her unfounded hatred of Trump. The believed every accusation made was manufactured and used purposely to hide her complete lack of Presidential skill. Trump though, could explain himself. He had a problem statement, he had a vision, and he wanted to own it. He also had experience. Sadly, they all too agreed that they liked Trump, but wished he'd keep his big mouth shut.

We've finished our walk lists, largely because Brenda really digs this stuff and she wants another Trump T-Shirt for me. The Campaign Director asked if we would venture into the urban heart of Colonial Heights. Right now, I'd say no. But Brenda would try. Yet, after what we have just seen, we could just as easy ask four questions: 1) Are you a single black woman? 2) Are you a man? 3) Is this a family that lives here? and, 4) Do you work for the government? It's clear who is blue and red in this questionnaire.

This is the first election in my life when the fascists and the Marxists are running against each other (or so goes the rhetoric). The vitriol is at a boiling point. There is no middle ground.

When Trump speaks, his observations are like land minds or tossed grenades. He has lived a life as a popular, dynamic billionaire bachelor and there is no doubt he has spurned many women and caused many affronts to others not so endowed. Whatever he says, does, or has done is cannon fodder for the Harris campaign and their many media sycophants. The media hide their Trump opinion pieces behind a facade of journalistic integrity.

Harris is an illusion of other's making, not her own person at all. Her head is filled with heresy's, libels, misrepresentation of fact, aggrandizement of accomplishments, and a healthy dose of megalomania. She runs without fear of contradiction. Worse though, God is her enemy and she avoids any discussion of what God and America have in common. In fact, her most reprehensible misguided public assertion is that Americans no longer want to be one nation under God.

In light of our polling. In light of the ratcheted rhetoric. And in light of who walks with good and who walks with the bad, I leave the readers with this observation made in the lead up the the 2020 Presidential election.

In a fully developed bureaucracy there is nobody left with whom one can argue, to whom one can present grievances, on whom the pressures of power can be exerted. Bureaucracy is the form of government in which everybody is deprived of political freedom, of the power to act; for the rule by Nobody is not no-rule, and where all are equally powerless, we have a tyranny without a tyrant.” ― Hannah Arendt,?On Violence

What does this mean?

This election started off being about the economy, jobs, border security, safer streets, a stronger dollar, and better foreign policy. It was all about the usual suspects. This changed when the DNC crowned Harris Queen Consort of the Constitution. Rather than show her to be better, instead the party willfully attacked and segregated Americans into divisive blocks of self-interested behaviors.

The party seeks to entwine us all in in the intrusive tentacles of of a bureaucracy further empowered by caveat, not law, in they name of populist protections. It is a government going in a new direction, one where the justices are an AI algorithm that assumes much about us all yet is not bound by proof, just probability. It is not about usual suspects. We are the suspects.

This is what those whom we polled for Trump fear the most. A new direction that is dangled like a carrot but purposely hidden from view. For, if we truly knew this purpose, Harris would be run out of town along with the entire Biden cabinet, 75% of the bureaucracy, and half of Congress.

I have great hope for the day after November 5 and after that Spring of 2025 when Trump has spent 100 days purging this nation's laws of Biden's overreach and exposing the criminality of the Biden cabinet. One woman we polled absolutely agreed about November 6, but not about Trump at all. She agreed because her husband would finally stop complaining about the election. My wife laughed and pointed to me and said, "Don't get him started either!" Of course, our wives are always right.

I gave my life to you when I became a Marine. I gave it again when I got cancer from serving at Camp Lejeune.
