Agriculture has been a vital sector of the Indian economy. And, India is ranked second in the world for farm outputs. It contributes 17-18% of the country’s GDP & provides employment for about 58% of the population.
Our government has been playing a major role by constantly supporting the agriculture sector by implementing various schemes, subsidies, by raising budget allocation, Introducing new technologies and plant/seed varieties to increase the overall agriculture cover and to help farmers to double their income. It has also helped farmers to secure their losses and getting Seeds, Fertilizers, Farm equipment at reasonable cost.
Even though, after contributing with various efforts in order to help farmers to enhance their growth, they still do face several concerning issues which often gets unnoticed at ground level, that make farmers lose their faith in government.
Majority of the rural population who are completely dependent on agriculture lack complete knowledge of the initiatives offered by the government. There feels a lack of technology transfer. The transportation and storage facilities has been a limiting factor. Regardless of the expansion of mechanization in India, most of the agricultural operation is still done by labours.
This gap between the technology and farmers needs to be addressed which has been causing a hurdle to enhance the agriculture productivity and to minimizing the farmer income.
