The common thread across both is a passion for seeing the adoption of science-based practices, whether its innovation in farming practices, such as, zero-till farming, or fostering culture and leadership change impacting employee and customer experience.

One of my favourite nerdy things to do each day is to review my Google Scholar alerts on a wide range of topics.

So, I was delighted to see a piece of research using the HEXACO model of personality, arguably the gold standard of personality measurement these days, overlapping with my old profession of working with farmers and graziers. The paper can be found here:

In summary, the authors found:

????? Our results indicate that livestock farmers differ in their personality from the general population, with farmers scoring higher on honesty-humility, conscientiousness and being more emotionally stable.  

????? Comparisons within the farmer sample show that organic livestock farmers score higher on Openness than conventional farmers.

Any of you who have farmers and graziers in your networks, or come from family farms, would immediately recognise these traits as real strengths in rural people.
