Agribusiness Investment Opportunity in Tanzania: Focus on Block Farming for Export

Tanzania’s agricultural sector offers significant opportunities in agribusiness, particularly through large-scale block farming. In partnership with our local agricultural services provider, we implement advanced farming and trading methods to produce and export quality cash crops to the international market.

These practices are strategically designed to meet substantial pending orders in both domestic and global markets, with crops like white maize, vanilla, sugar beans, soybeans, sesame, mung beans, cassava, peanuts, and avocados.

Investing in block farming in Tanzania offers potential for significant returns, driven by the country's favourable agricultural conditions, supportive government policies, and growing demand for agricultural products.?

Our supply chain draws from diverse stakeholders across Tanzania, as well as partnerships in Zambia and Malawi, ensuring a steady supply of premium agricultural products. A key component of our approach is our collaboration with smallholder farms through Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies, or “AMCOS.”

By working with these groups, we support smallholders with essential resources—such as seeds, fertilizers, dependable markets, training, and extension services—to elevate their production quality to export standards. Tanz Trust guarantees the purchase of all crops cultivated by our smallholder partners, promoting sustainable growth for these communities while securing a consistent product supply for the market.

Tanzania's agribusiness sector, particularly in block farming, is gaining momentum, fueled by strategic initiatives and increasing global demand for its cash crops. Recent efforts by the Tanzanian government have introduced block farming programs in Dodoma, allocating 11,453 hectares of farmland specifically for youth engagement in agriculture.

These initiatives aim to increase food security and economic empowerment, providing young farmers with training, technical support, and access to credit. This approach aligns with Tanzania’s larger goal of enhancing productivity and meeting international export standards, particularly for crops like maize, avocados, and legumes. Ref: The Citizen. Agricultural exports have surged over recent years, with a 9.5% increase valued at $2.3 billion by the end of 2023. Crops such as avocados and sesame have seen significant growth, with avocado exports alone reaching 26,826 tonnes, generating $77.3 million in revenue. Tanzania's expanding export reach includes new markets like China, with primary exports directed to the Netherlands, France, and the UAE. Ref: AMDT The Citizen

In collaboration with local partners, Tanz Trust is well-positioned to contribute to this sector by engaging both large-scale commercial farms and smallholder cooperatives (AMCOS). These groups benefit from Tanz Trust partner’s support in terms of resources, market access, and training, allowing their produce to meet export quality standards. Tanz Trust ground partner’s activities in agribusiness provide sustainable support for both the local and export markets, covering crops like maize, soybeans, and peanuts, and fulfilling substantial pending orders for international clients.
