Agreement reached to end US East and Gulf Coast ports strike

An agreement has been reached between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX), ending the strike affecting multiple East and Gulf Coast ports.??

“The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025 to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues. Effective immediately, all current job actions will cease, and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume.” International Longshoreman Association | United States Maritime Association |Joint Statement | October 3, 2024?

The labor dispute resulted in a significant slowdown in ocean freight operations, causing delays and complications for shippers and logistics companies globally. The strike, which lasted three days, caused a backlog of over 40 ships awaiting entry into affected ports.?

The end of the strike brings some relief; however, supply chains are expected to face continued delays for several weeks as recovery efforts are underway.??

In the coming days, we will assess the extent of the delays, with sources estimating approximately five days of delay for each day of the strike. We will monitor the situation closely as shipping lines respond to these developments. Additionally, we will track how the surcharges imposed by the shipping lines will be adjusted.?

It's essential to follow our updates and stay in contact with our executives to understand the implications and prepare solutions that ensure cargo reaches its final destination as planned.?

If you have any immediate concerns or need assistance, reach out to our team directly at [email protected]. We're here to ensure your cargo moves smoothly despite the recent disruptions.?
