According to Wikipedia, "Agree to disagree" or "agreeing to disagree" is a phrase in English referring to the resolution of a conflict whereby all parties tolerate but do not accept the opposing position. It generally occurs when all sides recognize that further conflict would be unnecessary, ineffective or otherwise undesirable

You can tell a bully from a leader by how treat the people that disagree them...

When we run into issues, and we walk away the situation will be eased...

Fish always rots from the head... organizations also follow the same

If perceptions or thoughts are not articulated clearly, then disagreements come in to picture, conflicts to be resolved.

Come up with precise and clear thoughts, one has to know right words to use, articulating the intentions and speaking your mind is important...

Disagree Phrase always has a negative connotation

If two people disagree, there is diverse opinion, if there is a diverse opinion, it leads to a better product, and ideas lead to positive things?

To create great atmosphere where everyone can disagree, leaders play a critical role?

Phrase popular from Amazon -

Disagree and commit....?

The team is encouraged to Disagree, come back with options and later commit.

If two people agree to everything, then second one is not required.?Disagreements are good

Respecting Disagreement should be inculcated in the kids and we need to teach. It is okay to disagree,

Context - opinion about that particular situation...

In the hierarchical societies we have the feeling that if we are saying no to something, we are saying no to that individual...

But in a few countries, people are more mature...they disagree to that situation only but not the person.

Participants are learning through their children in a subtle way. Children are the New Age Gurus- they are making us to realize that, relations need not end etc.

Why can't we disagree in a pleasant manner?

As John Wooden quoted

"We can agree to disagree, but we don't need to be disagreeable"

Brainstorming meetings - classic example of the agree to disagree - where the facilitators brings the team to consensus

Though there is a disagreement initially, but later realization happens

If you can look at the past and laugh about it, you are in the right place and right pace

For one of the participants, maximum competition happened during Performance reviews - at times people are giving inputs to help you find data points to make it easy for you to make decisions

Agree to Disagree becomes difficult in the virtual world.

In the physical world, it was easy to come back to normal after a disagreement ... by catching up over a coffee or a lunch :)

In organizations, disagreements creep between old timers vs new joiners. Leadership plays a crucial role.

Are the Disagreements prevalent ONLY in commercial dealings?

The answer is NO

If the importance given to a person - who is on other side.. agrees at times to appease the other person

Agree to Disagree is innate,

Culture aspects play a crucial role...

Best practices to avoid disagreements in the first place:

  • Being open to each, candid conversations are going to help immensely in avoiding disagreements among the individuals
  • Level play the strengths
  • Maturity vs Age vs importance etc. play a role in deciding whether to agree or disagree
  • Putting your self in other person's shoes
  • Think win-win (both parties should win)
  • Compartmentalization of thoughts and pieces of time
  • Always pick which battle to fight based on the relationship, helps in deciding to take stance
