There is a lot of talk surrounding the Agnipath Bharti Program. There are clashing views, with some supporting the government's steps, while others think the program may not work to deliver adequately trained individuals fit for field duty. While debates, oppositions and clashing views are part and parcel of a democracy, 'I believe this program is a terrific opportunity for youngsters to imbibe the skills, ethos and culture of the armed forces'.
The Agnipath Bharti Program is a recruitment program aimed at recruiting the youth of India into the armed forces, i.e. the Army, Navy and Air Force. The program seeks to harness the youth's potential and advantages of the Skill India initiative by recruiting from technical institutes and will provide a large number of individuals to serve their nation. The program is different from the regular recruitment in that the individuals recruited into the Armed Forces under this scheme will serve for a tenure of 4 years instead of 15 years. The recruits will also have the opportunity to apply for a position in the permanent cadre.?
The program will provide a training of 6 months to the recruits before they are deployed on the ground. A key advantage of this program is that along with the monetary benefits of 'Seva Nidhi', individuals completing this program will also receive certificates highlighting skills gained during tenure and credits, which will help them pursue higher education. Agniveers wishing to become entrepreneurs will have priority under the bank loan scheme. Agniveers will receive priority and the opportunity to apply for CAPFs, Assam Rifles, Police and Allied Forces in various states. Agniveers will also gain real-life experience and skills in fields like engineering, mechanics etc. Many leading Indian companies in engineering, IT, and Security fields have announced their support and preference to hire Skilled Agniveers.

2 年Your thoughts resonate with me Nasir. As the Son of an Army officer, I may be biased in my opinion on this but I see several advantages, with a hint of caution though. It is undoubtedly a novel approach to addressing pressing socio-cultural issues. A definite result would be a more aligned, conscious and productive youth, along with higher social values. I even foresee an increase in general levels of ethics and respect for national property, as well as safety of the vulnerable. Things to watch out for - the Indian Army has protected its culture and evolved in effectiveness, building on its core values over time. These core values ensure the Indian Army, though not the best in equipment and technology, is a fierce and effective force nevertheless, in times of peace, rescue, insurgency or conventional war. We need to ensure that there are no 'side effects' that threaten this core, at any cost. And for those Agniveers looking to serve their Country, and not merely for a job, we need to ensure their smooth, uninterrupted re-entry into the work force, If done right, imagine what impact this trained talent pool can contribute towards nation building?! Here's hoping for all the positive outcomes...
