Is Agile slowly dying?

Is Agile slowly dying?

Is Agile running out of steam?

Have companies decided to turn back to waterfall methods holding onto the phased gate approach?

I've been in the agile movement for over a decade and as I've danced through the roles of scrum in the big ballroom of Agile it's true that we're feeling some churn and 'oh my goodness moments' with companies that vested so much time and effort in Agile, just to decide to close that initiative and move on.

But what I've learned recently through my iPec coach certification is that companies or new initiatives always seem to throw in the towel after their 3rd big step of their journey, (out of 10) and decide to shift to a new path.

What we don't realize is... that working in an Agile environment isn't fast, and changing a complex environment is much easier than changing the individual's mindset within the environment. We become 'aware' (step 1) of a better way and over time 'accept' (step 2) that we needed to change, and it's beginning to produce results as we make 'conscious choices' (step 3) to create the destiny or strategy we are striving towards. Then we lose patience, because the next part is the longest.... we don't give an opportunity to 'trust the process' (step 4). Instead of moving into the next impactful step, we decide it's not for us.

I don't think Agile is dying or running out of steam but those Agile coaches who are passionate about helping organizations from where they stand will find their way to help professionals & leaders to develop awesome skills & strategies and be careful ...

because they just might be ol' Agile ways.

More to come on those steps later but in the meantime don't get down or frustrated if you're in an Agile role and you feel it's losing steam, but get ready - the movement's coming!
